Loly Castillo, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on September 19, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on February 28, 1938, to Juan Garcia and Luz Estrada de Garcia in Guatemala City, Guatemala, Loly was known for her generous spirit, friendliness, and kind-hearted nature.
In the 1960s, Loly moved from her birthplace of Guatemala to the United States, residing most of her adult years in Los Angeles, California. She was a hard worker in the hospitality industry, raising her four children on her own. She instilled in them to love one another, be kind, serve others, and work hard to get ahead in life. She moved to Arizona in 2022 to live with family. She was fierce and stood up for others when they could not speak for themselves. She had a great sense of humor that was contagious to anyone she met. Her smile would light up a room. That smile was always adorned with her favorite color of lipstick. She was thoughtful in that she left her handwritten cooking recipes for her family to enjoy for generations to come.
She is preceded in death by her father Juan Garcia, mother Luz Estrada de Garcia, sister Maria Cristina Garcia, and brother Juan Jose Garcia.
She is survived by her sister Luz del Carmen Colindres, sister Amanda Perez, sister Mirna Leticia Garcia, daughter Silvia Semar (George), daughter Vilma Kern (David), son Rene A. Castillo (Ana), youngest daughter Erica Carvajal (Mario), two granddaughters, seven grandsons, three great-grandsons, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends all whom loved her dearly.
Loly Castillo will be remembered for the impact she had on her beloved family and friends. Her life will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A celebration of life service is pending.
Matthew 25:23 Well done, good and faithful servant. Thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will make thee ruler over many things. Enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
