Petra Murphy

Petra was preceded in death by her mother Traute Kleine and father Armin Von Ganz.

Petra was born on October 30, 1941 in the historic town of Ansbach, Germany. In 1957 she married an American soldier named Ronald Mozwecz, and in 1959 her journey led her to the United States, where she embraced a new beginning. In 1962, Petra found employment with the US Post Office — a career that would span nearly four decades. She started there in an entry-level job, but because of her hard work and dedication, she became an operations manager at the North Suburban Post Office in Carol Stream.

Petra and Ronald started a family, welcoming four children into their lives: Jean, Ron, Jerry, and Leslie. Ronald preceded Petra in death in 1994.

After Ronald’s death, Petra met the love of her life, Michael Murphy. They had a wonderful 25-year marriage in which, during which they were inseparable. They travelled the world together and eventually retired to Surprise, Arizona.

Petra led a active life in retirement and enjoyed bowling, swimming, putting club, Mahjong, and numerous outings with her dear friends. She had a beloved dog named Rambo whom she doted upon, and who preceded her in death in 2023.

She leaves behind her beloved husband, Michael Murphy, her children—Jean (Troy) Smith, Ronald (Christine) Mozwecz, Gerald Mozwecz, and the late Leslie Mozwecz—and her stepchildren, the late Michael (Alicia) Murphy, Richard (Kelly) Murphy, Jason Murphy, Rodger Murphy, and Leslie (Scott) Chandler.

She was the proud grandmother of Amanda (Tim) Schwiesow, Jillian (Doug) Adams, Jeremy Mozwecz, Sarah (Andre) Srour, Jessica (Gus Avelar) Mozwecz, Lauren (Michael) Darcy, and Nicholas (Erin) Mozwecz. She was a fond sister-in-law, aunt, and great aunt to many. Her loving family also included 15 step-grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

As we bid farewell to Petra Murphy, we hold close the memories that she left behind. Her journey on this earth has ended, but her spirit remains an indelible part of the tapestry of our lives. Rest in peace, dear Petra. Your legacy will endure in those you have touched.
