Alexander Schultz entered into the joy of being forever with his Lord on August 29, 2024 at the age of 92. Born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan on May 16, 1932 to Emil and Ottilie Schultz, he was their youngest of twelve children.
At age 19, Al enrolled in RCMP training and at age 20 was posted to the North Burnaby detachment. He met his wife Kathleen Reid, while responding to a call she had made concerning a break in. It was love at first sight and they were soon married. Sustaining a back injury due to a car accident involving a drunk driver, Al soon resigned from the RCMP.
As the house was full of a growing family and pets, he spent time studying in the car to obtain his CGA at UBC. Al worked at Shell Oil, becoming a computer systems specialist and took early retirement at age 53.
In his retirement years he and his wife Kathleen enjoyed camping in their fifth wheel trailer and lovingly caring for and influencing their grandchildren’s lives.
Al loved to give. He was an avid gardener all his life and with joy he shared his garden produce with family, friends and neighbours. Grocery shopping was also his hobby, finding the best deals and sharing them with his family. He gave his all to lovingly care for his wife, Kathleen, as she battled Alzheimer’s disease.
He kept us all laughing with his gentle, witty sense of humor which he maintained to the end of his days.
His favorite Bible verse was, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen, son Brent and son-in-law Doug. He will be dearly missed by his remaining 3 children and their spouses – Brad(Sharon), Lynda(Peter), Arlene; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Bryan, Alyson(Greg), Melissa(Erwin), Katelyn(Peter), Anika(Mike), Jonathan(Jeffery), Kara(Phillip), Kurt, Luke, Ashley, Alexandra, and his 17 great grandchildren.
Elim Village is to be commended for their outstanding care to Al the past few years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BC Children’s Hospital or St. Paul’s Foundation.
A private family service and interment will be held on Friday, October 4th at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre.
A public Celebration of Life will be held at Elim Village in the Oasis auditorium (9025 160 St, Surrey, BC) on Saturday, October 5th at 11am with a lunch to follow.
