Alicia May Jones
September 25, 1923 to May 9, 2026
Alicia May Jones (nee Howard) died on May 9, 2026, at the Evergreen Baptist Care Home in White Rock, aged 102, after a difficult journey with dementia.
Born in Southport, Lancashire, England, Alicia served in the British Navy during WW II as a WRN, rising to the rank of Petty Officer. She called the war 'her university'. She married Trevor Jones in 1947 after meeting him at a symphony concert during the last days of the war. Trevor became a Methodist Minister in the UK and subsequently, a United Church Minister in Canada. Alicia and Trevor immigrated to Canada in 1958 with their two children and held United Church postings in Saskatchewan, Vancouver, Prince Rupert, and White Rock, where they settled in retirement.
Alicia is survived by her children, Elizabeth and William (Georgia), and four grandchildren, David, Hannah, Elaina, and Gina. Trevor predeceased her in 2005.
Trevor and Alicia's partnership in the United Church community, music, service, and family were foundational to Alicia's life. We remember her, not with dementia, but as she was: resilient and feisty, practical and organized, charming and funny. She was an accomplished musician from an early age, participating in musical leadership in the church and community beyond. She and two friends created the Aldoria Trio (Alicia, piano; Dorla, cello; Cecilia, violin) in her 70s. The trio played gigs around Vancouver and the Lower Mainland for a number of years. She was also the pianist and musical organizer for the White Rock Community Orchestra Society, receiving an honorary membership for her service in 2016.
The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care that Alicia received at the Evergreen Baptist Care Home, The Pointe, White Rock, especially staff Amber, Tomoko, and Gurjit.
A Celebration of Life will be held July 25, 2026 at 1:00 pm (PDT) at Peninsula United Church, (Crescent Beach), at 2756 127 Street, Surrey, BC, V4A 6L5, and online via YouTube (https://bit.ly/AliciaJonesJuly-25-2026)
