Allan passed away peacefully at home on November 16, 2022 in his 89th year. He was born in Chilliwack on April 5th, 1933. In 1942 he moved to Port Alice with his parents Kenneth & Peggy Monkhouse and older sister Marilyn. His sister Kathryn was born a year later. Susan and Sarah were born after Kenneth married his second wife Alice in 1952. Allan married Louise and had two children, April and Kenneth Monkhouse. Allan developed a love for the water at a young age after he got his first boat. His dog Murphy was his first mate often seen perched up at the bow as they navigated together. As a young man he got a job driving water taxi out of Horseshoe Bay plying the waters along the coast. Many friendships were formed with "Bowen Islanders" who have kept in touch for the past seventy years. In 1973 Allan married Valerie Wightman, his loving wife of 49 years. After a long career in sales of mining and construction equipment he retired in 1998. He and Valerie moved from Richmond to South Surrey finally settling in Langley. Doting on Valerie, boating and RV travel kept him busy. Allan loved to read and as long as the books were about boats, he was content. Allan is survived by his daughter April, grandson Wynter, sisters Kathryn (Don), Susan (Shaun) and Sarah(Steve) along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his Father and Mother, sister Marilyn and son Kenneth. "Papa" will be sadly missed by Valerie and her four children, Millar (Judy), Randy (Anne), Leslie (Victor) and Debra (William) including several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
