Our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and dear friend, Amy (also known to many as Layla), went home to Jesus at age 34 when, on September 23, 2026, the vehicle she was riding in was struck head-on by a drunk driver.
Amy was born on January 29, 1992, in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. From a young age, she was an energetic, outgoing, cheerful, straightforward, and caring child. She had a keen eye for colour and loved looking beautiful.
In 2002, at the age of 10, Amy immigrated to Canada with her parents and younger brother William, beginning a brand-new life in Surrey, British Columbia. Amy quickly made many new friends. After graduating from high school, Amy studied makeup artistry at the Blanche Macdonald Centre. She then spent six months at Ignite, a Christian Bible school in the United States, seeking to know Jesus more deeply and grow in her love for Him. After returning, she continued her studies in hairdressing at Vancouver Community College. She worked in the hair, makeup, and film industries and returned to Taiwan, where she lived for four years, continuing to develop her skills. During this time, she also really enjoyed living so close to her extended family in Taiwan.
Last year, Amy began studying for a certificate in Early Childhood Education. She loved applying what she was learning when she spent time with her two- and five-year-old nephews, and she also loved spending time with the little boy she nannied.
Amy loved Disney, LEGO, her cat, fashion, cooking, and children. She also greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Amy always treasured the time she spent with her family. When her grandmother passed away last year, she experienced the pain of losing someone she loved and later that year, made a special trip back to Taiwan to spend time with her grandfather.
Family was always a very important part of Amy’s life. She always loved bringing surprises and joy to her family, whether it was a thoughtfully chosen gift or simply treating them to a bubble tea. Whenever she went shopping, she often thought of her nephews and loved buying gifts for them.
Amy always gave her whole heart to everything she did – whether working, continuing her education, or organizing events. Whatever responsibility she took on, she took it seriously and did her very best to do it well. She was always thoughtful of others; she was willing to listen and willing to spend time with people. She was a kind and generous person.
Amy is survived by her paternal grandfather and both of her maternal grandparents; her parents, Daniel and Sonya; her younger brother, William; her sister-in-law, Jess; and her two nephews, Milo and Oakley. She was predeceased by her paternal grandmother.
Please dress in your wedding best as we gather to honour Amy's life, grieve her loss, and celebrate the joy of knowing she is now home in heaven. The family kindly asks that flowers not be sent.
