He will be greatly missed by his four children, Colleen Reinders (Mike), Wayne Van Dorp (Alison), Brian Van Dorp and Sharon Van Beilen (Harry), 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
He was born in Schipluiden, Holland on August 7, 1933. His childhood in Holland instilled a heart of wonder and a lifelong passion for serving others. Andy immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1952 as a handsome 18 year old and later in 1959 met a beautiful, tall English gal, Terry, in Vancouver where they married and raised their family to love God, people and creation. Andy worked faithfully in the port of Vancouver for 40 years, lastly as a foreman for Canadian Stevedoring.
He made everyone feel special and showed genuine interest in every person in the room. He had an appreciation for beautiful things and would draw you in to experience the unique beauty. He truly was “Handy Andy” and his life was defined by charity, church work and helping anyone in need, serving at World Renew’s Disaster Relief Services, YWAM, Mission Thrift Store, Gleaners, Christian school and church maintenance committees. He couldn’t sit still while visiting his children’s homes and always came up with a project to renovate or something to repair. His favourite task was power-washing! He loved gardening, travelling to Holland and other parts of the world including their 23 yearly RV treks to Sky Valley, California. He was always up for playing games, drinking a good rum and coke, and having good laughs even if he told the same jokes over and over. He loved listening to Christian and Dutch choirs and better still if they had an organ. He loved to worship His Saviour by singing. He instilled the love of music and hard work in his kids.
He leaves behind his brothers, El, his twin brother Bram and Jan. He was preceded in death by his brother Henk and sisters Janny and Agatha.
The celebration of life will be held on July 2, 2024 at 1pm at Fleetwood Christian Reformed Church in Surrey, BC. (9165 160th St), with reception following. All friends and family are welcome. Here is a link to the service: https://youtube.com/live/jyjq3hjPBaw?feature=share
