Anneliese (Ann) Poulton/ Hammer (nee Endres) was born October 15,1925, in Bad Tolz, Bavaria, Germany. She was the eldest of three girls. (Rosemarie resides in Stratford, Ontario. Inge passed in September 2020.)
Anneliese trained to be an apprentice in bookkeeping at school, then working in an office in Arnstein Germany from 1940-1943.
She married Tony Hammer of Arnstein, Germany in 1944. In 1951, Anneliese and Tony emigrated to Stratford, Ontario with their two young sons, Klaus and Fred (sadly, Fred passed in 2007). Later two more sons, Michael and Mark were born in Stratford, Ontario.
Her husband Tony died in June of 1972 at the young age of 51.
Anneliese remarried in 1975 to Bill Poulton. They moved to British Columbia in 1978 and lived in Vancouver and Surrey. Ann and her husband lived on an acreage/ hobby farm with a variety of projects on the go, which she enjoyed. After Bill’s passing, Anneliese moved to White Rock.
While her health was still with her, Anneliese travelled to many places including trips back to Germany, Portugal, Spain and Palm Springs. She enjoyed going to the theater and the casino with friends, where there was good food and entertainment. Knitting for the grandchildren and in her later years making dishcloths for family and friends, music, reading and endless magazines were also enjoyable hobbies of Anneliese. She was a huge supporter of Reader’s Digest, buying not only the magazines but anything they offered, such as the records, tapes, and an atlas. Even a world globe made its way into our home!
Anneliese was generous to many organizations, family and friends. When a neighbour needed bingo money, she was there to help.
She was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she loved very much. She always enjoyed the phone calls, cards and visits from the grandchildren and great-grandchildren from B.C., Alberta and Ontario.
Anneliese resided in her condo until her 98th year. When full time nursing care was required, she moved to the Evergreen Baptist Care facility. There she received wonderful care until her passing on June 9th, 2025.
Her ashes will be laid to rest in the Stratford cemetery, next to her first husband, Tony Hammer.
