In Loving Memory

Audrey Lillian Marie Semke

It is with sadness, yet also with God’s peace, that we announce the passing of Audrey Semke on March 16, 2023, at the age of 82, in Langley, BC. Audrey gently went to be with the Lord, surrounded by her family.

She was the devoted wife of Wayne for 60 years; the beloved mother of Cheryl, Brad (Anne-Marie), and Steve (Rebecca); and the treasured grandmother of Jonathan, Stefan, Amanda, David, Joshua, and Matthew. Audrey is also survived by her sister Carol (Lyle), her brother Jack, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, all of whom were dear to her heart.

Audrey was a bright, fun-filled, creative, generous, hard-working, and compassionate woman of faith. She was a committed follower of Jesus Christ, always desiring to obey God and love her neighbours. She was a source of comfort and care to many throughout her life.

Over her eight decades, Audrey had many roles and occupations. She was a loving daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, and “Grammy”. And she was a skillful homemaker, hostess, church volunteer, executive secretary, gardener, and interior decorator.

Audrey was a Proverbs 31 woman:

“A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.

Her husband has full confidence in her….She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.

Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:

“Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

Honor her for all that her hands have done…”

Four years ago, Audrey and Wayne’s journey with Alzheimer’s meant they had to say farewell to their home of 42 years in South Surrey. They transitioned to The Village Langley together in 2019. During Audrey’s stay at Alder House and Cypress Cottage, she received excellent medical support and personal care from the wonderful staff. We would like to sincerely thank all the caregivers, medical personnel, and other staff members at The Village for their kindness and warm-hearted professionalism toward Audrey and our family. You are a blessing.

Audrey Semke will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Thankfully, as Christians, “good-bye” is not forever. We have the great comfort and assurance that Audrey is with our Savior and that we shall all be together again at the right time.

Jesus comforts us with these words:

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.

In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you.

I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you,

I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. (John 14:1-3)
