Barbara Ethel Farmer

Born on the Island of St. Kitts, and raised in Barbados, she enjoyed the warm sea and basking in the sun.

She immigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1956 where she met her husband to be (and fellow Bajan), Robert Farmer. They held their wedding in Barbados in 1962, and returned to live in Montreal, where their children Susan and Stephen were born. Shortly after, the entire family moved to Toronto in 1965, and then to Vancouver in 1966 where they remained most of their lives.

Barbara loved to travel and visited many countries world-wide, including spending two years living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, several garden tours to Europe, Hawaii, and memorable trips she won to visit Germany and Australia. She was an excellent cook and loved entertaining, often hosting dinners and large parties for family and friends. She was overjoyed when her grandson Nevan was born, and trips between Texas and Vancouver became a regular event for both families.

She worked at several jobs over her lifetime where she was known for her efficiency and organization skills. Notable jobs included several years at the Western Institute for the Deaf, and at the Faculty of Dentistry at UBC where she assisted with the dentistry school admissions.

Barbara is predeceased by her parents Alma and Basil Ullyett, and brother George Ullyett (Marie). She is survived by her husband Robert, daughter Susan (Gary), son Stephen (Melissa), grandson Nevan, sisters Monica (Bob) and Audrey, brother Peter and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Barbara will be remembered by her family and friends for her cheerfulness, sense of humour and generosity.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday April 5th at 1:00 pm at St. Mary's Kerrisdale Anglican Church 2490 West 37th Ave, Vancouver, BC, V6M 1P5. A reception and celebration of life will follow in the Parish Hall.
