Bernice Janette Scott

Mom was born in 1932 in Vancouver and lived most of her life in the Lower Mainland. She grew up on a houseboat in Coal Harbour right near Stanley Park and rode her tricycle into the park along with her dog "Laddie". Her school years were spent in Richmond, were she met our Dad, Anthony Shewan Gray Scott (1930-2006).

Mom and Dad were high school sweethearts. They were married in 1951 and by 1953, had one daughter. Their son arrived in 1955, and many years later, much to their surprise, a third child arrived in 1966.

Mom and Dad lived in Richmond, Quesnel and even locations in California -Oildale, Bakersfield, Ventura, and Reseda before moving back to Richmond in 1965. Mom and Dad bought a place in White Rock in 1989 and she lived there until 2012.

Mom loved being at home raising her kids and didn't start working until 1971 when she got a job at Vancouver General Hospital. She worked at the Doctors Desk greeting the doctors every day and helping to keep their mail and phone messages organized. She loved that job, often making treats for them! She also worked in Information Services and eventually as a telephone operator at the hospital.

Mom is survived by her daughter Andrea (Mike), son Tony (Lynn) , and daughter Debbie (Dar). She was so very proud to be a Nana to her grandchildren Jen (Joel), Dave (Leanne), Tanya (Nick), Stephanie (Braden) and Samantha (Chris). She was so lucky to have met and enjoyed watching her great grandchildren growing up. Stephen, Abigail, Ella, Madeleine, Luke, Blakely, and Callum loved their time with their Nana and will surely miss her. She is predeceased by her husband Tony (2006) and great granddaughter Charleigh (2023).

The most important piece of mom's life was her family. She loved nothing more than to spend time with everyone, and loved hearing of their adventures and accomplishments. It made her so happy to know that all members of her family were in a good place. As family, we loved our get-togethers where mom would share stories of years gone by. Mom and Dad nurtured such a strong family relationship that all 25 members of their family still live within the Lower Mainland... no more than 1 hour apart.

Early on, Mom and Dad camped and waterskied while in California. Once they were back in Richmond, Dad bought his first boat... the Scotch Mist. Mom spent lots of time fishing on the boat with Dad. They also travelled to Hawaii, Spain, and Mexico, and spent many a springtime in Arizona. Mom, Drea and Tata (Mom's Mom) travelled to Switzerland to see Tata's hometown of Scuol in 1989. The girls in the family were often treated to "girls' weekends"... shopping, casinoing, and dinners out often in Bellingham and Burlington.

We will continue the tradition of "vin-chaud"... hot spiced wine that we enjoyed every Christmas.. and her delicious Christmas pudding with caramel and brandy-laced hard sauce!

The family would like to thank Robyn for her many years of care and friendship. Once Mom moved to Cascade, Joanne, Pat, and Cecile became friends and enjoyed their time together sharing stories of their families and their pasts. Those friendships were so important to Mom. We would also like to thank the many care-aids, nurses and front office staff at Cascade Lodge who treated Mom like their own during her four years there. It was reassuring for us as family to know that others were keeping a close eye on her and her needs.

As per mom's request, there will be a private, family service and the family will then enjoy a meal together after Mom’s internment at Victory Memorial Garden in White Rock... next to Dad.
