Bruno was born in Vancouver BC to Alex and Emma Bush. One brother, Stanley, completed the family. Bruno graduated from John Oliver Secondary in 1952.
Bruno trained for and was then employed at VGH as an x-ray technician. In 1958 he moved to Baltimore, Maryland eventually becoming Chief Technician in the x-ray department at Johns Hopkins Hospital, at only 24 years of age! In 1960 he returned to BC and began working as the Chief Technician at the hospital in Haney.
Bruno married Elfriede Golz, the younger sister of his good friend Pete, on November 15, 1963. For their honeymoon, they embarked on an adventure, travelling to La Jolla, California where Bruno was offered the position of Chief Technician at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation. He accepted the position, and they enjoyed the California sunshine for 10 years, during which time they had two daughters, Pamela (1967) and JoAnne (1968).
The family returned to Vancouver in 1973 and Bruno was soon employed by the Province of BC as a Radiation Inspection Officer. It was from this job that he retired in 1992.
Bruno loved hunting, fishing, and going for walks with Elfriede, especially at Crescent Beach. He could whistle in countless ways and was the master of making wise crack comments. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. Bruno said many times how lucky he was in this life. Unfortunately, Alzheimer’s robbed Bruno of his memory much too soon. But we will never forget him.
Left to mourn are his loving wife of almost 58 years, Elfriede, and two daughters, Pamela (Andy) Erkau and JoAnne (Alex) Kunert; grandchildren Daniel, Bryan, Katrina, Nathan, Amy and Adam; brother Stan (Darlene) and their family.
Special thanks to the capable and caring staff at Evergreen Campus of Care (4th floor) for their care of Bruno the past five years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Bruno’s memory be made to the Union Gospel Mission or the Alzheimer Society of BC.
