Lots of love and best wishes to you all.  Chris was a wonderful man.  His kindness, intelligence and fantastic sense of humour will be truly missed!  I have fabulous memories of my time with your family in Milltimber and will always hold Chris dearly in my heart.

Chris was a great all rounder - rugby player, barber shop singer, reconteur and some say actor ! 
He had a dry sense of humour and undeniable love of family. 
Both Chris and Lynne had a very positive effect on us during our time in Ecuador. Such happy memories. 
Lynne we are so grateful to you for making contact whilst we were in Sydney. We realised the significance of the rendezvous and walked away with tears in our eyes. You've been in our thoughts ever since.

A fond memory of your dad: He was always very kind and welcomed me into his home. One morning, after spending the night at your house, I was seated at the breakfast table with your family. Porridge was on the menu and I was struggling getting it down. When your father noticed my soon to be wasted meal, he reminded me that there were starving children in Africa. I swiftly quipped back, "Then we can put it in an envelope and mail it to them." Oh the horror! The expression on your father's face was priceless. He was not amused. I believe there were gasps from either you or your mom or both. After that awkward incident, your dear father still welcomed me into his home and accepted me as his daughter's BFF. He was a great dad!

I have prayed and will continue to for you and your family. I think I know a certain someone up there who handed Chris a glass of wine or perhaps a frosty mug or bottle of beer as soon as he stepped through the gates with a hearty Welcome back! Whatever it was she offered him, I can picture that smile of his with a grateful nod on his face when he accepted it. I also know there are as many if not far more people up there that are as glad to see him as the number of folks here that are sorry to see him go.
 
The Hieger family's love, sympathy and prayers are with you. I still think of you and your family often. Binding friendships that lasted a lifetime here are sure to continue into the next place as well. I'm very proud of the strength you showed during these difficult times. You are a model for others and I hope I will be as strong as you have been when the time comes.

Oh Lynne.  I am so sorry.  You and Chris have been on my mind a great deal lately and I wondered how you were both holding up.  I am so glad that you were able to be by his side all this time and at the end.  I will always remember him as a vibrant and witty chap, a true gentleman.  I am so very glad that Donald and I got to visit you together in your beautiful Vancouver home. You and Chris were such a source of support for our whole family when Dale passed away and again when Gwen left us.  I hope that you will be surrounded in the months to come by the same kind of love and support you gave us.

Please gather your family up in a group, bear hug and tell them "This hug is from the Hieger's, they were big fans of your father and are sorry they can't be here."

It was with deepest sorrow we heard about the passing of Chris. A husband, father, grandfather and friend  who will be sorely missed, but who will be remembered with joy from having known him. His smile will never be forgotten.

The one outstanding memory I have is Chris as King Henry VIII in one of the plays we did in Ecuador. He truly was a King and a wonderful friend.

Dearest Lynne,
We were so sorry to hear about Chris passing.  I know you  were were all expecting it, but it is never easy when it happens.  You have so many  wonderful memories of your life together, now it it is time to remember and to share them with others.
It is a blessing to have all your family and friends  there for support.  They all loved Chris and will remember Chris the way he was.
I was planning a trip to PoCo. for this week-end to see my grand-kids, and I have extended my stay until Thurs.  so I can be there for you at the funeral.  Grant  decided he would fly with me so we will both be there to say good-bye to Chris.

Dear Lynne (Mama S), Kim, Shannon and Morgan

I am so sorry I can't be with you at this extremely sad time. It was good to see you all (albeit briefly) via FaceTime today.


I just wanted to write you a wee note to send you all my love and to let you know you are all in my thoughts. 


I was so sad to hear that Chris had passed. As you will well know, words cannot do the loss justice. We have lost an incredible figure from the Sherwood clan. I can't imagine how quiet the house must feel and how strange it must be to not have him at the table. 


I feel so lucky to be a part of your family and to have known Chris. He was certainly a gentleman, and undoubtedly a man with the most incredible presence. I am so lucky to be married to Morgan who I do believe holds many of Chris' "English" manners and wonderful values. 


My memories of Chris are all so special. To name but a few - from my first visit to Canada for his operation at that time and him patiently teaching me the ways of Sudoku at the dining table; to being reminded that being in my late 20s/early 30s is still no excuse to have my elbows on the table (they will after all, be carved); to your lions' tails swinging along the streets  of Sydney together, Lynne. Having him present at our wedding was incredibly special and I love the images of you both dancing together Mama S. I remember too his brave speech at the meal the night before our wedding, having struggled so much with words at that time, yet still being as eloquent and present as ever. I've attached a photo from our wedding which I love. I know we will all miss that smile; not to mention his quick-wittedness. 


Know that I am with you all in spirit over this extremely hard time.

Dear Aunty Lynne, Kim, Shannon and Morgan,
Words cannot fully express how very sad and devastated we are at the news of Uncle Christopher.  However much one is prepared there is always that terrible shock.  No one should have had to endure what Uncle Christopher went through, but by all accounts, he remained so utterly brave and kept his humour when he could.  A true Sherwood!!  A humour that I will always remember.  
I picked some primroses on Wednesday as it would have been Grandma's Birthday and as I sat in the sun picking them I spent some time remembering all the good times we had together.  Memories that will stay with me forever.  Wonderful memories of our time in Loughton; our Christmas' when we would come down to Cobham with Grandma and Grandpa and then your last visit to North Wootton.  It was such a lovely day.  I don't think we moved from the sitting room!!  We just sat and chatted all day!!!  I remember thinking you were arriving later and that we would eat early evening but you called and said you would be there earlier!!  Well, you should have seen us!!! Talk about "ready, steady, cook!"  Sunday lunch prepared in record time.  It was hilarious!  All Morgan hands on deck - hoovering, dusting, laying table etc.  It was a truly wonderful day and a wonderful lasting memory of Uncle Christopher.

Being on opposite sides of the Atlantic for the most part of our lives has never been easy and at times like this impossible, but you must all know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.

Mum and I send you our love and deepest sympathy. You and all the family are in our thoughts. 


Chris fought a brave battle with great courage and with you alongside him every step of the way.


It is a comfort to know that he was at home with you and that you were together at his death.


Mum and I have been talking over memories. Mum has many happy memories of Chris as a young boy growing up in Halifax and at her wedding when Chris chased after her and dad hurling confetti at them as they walked past the church. She has a photo of that and may send you a copy! Chris would be about 6 years-old.


We know you will have the support of your family and we send our best wishes to the children.

Dear Auntie Lynne, Kim, Shannon and Morgan,
My deepest and sincere condolences for loss. He was a fighter and made the most of the last 3 years. I will always have very fond memories of him. I am glad he is now pain free and at peace. 
I will never forget having to tell our village butcher that he had not seen Spiro's Dad walking our dog Holly round the village, that it was in fact his Uncle, and the butcher was having non of it.
