Cornelia Petronella 'Elly' Hendriks

Cornelia Petronella “Elly” Hendriks (nee Nees), 89, of White Rock, B.C. passed away in the early evening of February, 18, 2024 with family by her side. Elly was predeceased by her first husband, Petrus Dekerf, her eldest daughter, Elly MacGregor, and her second husband, Rudi Hendriks.

Elly is survived by her sons, Peter (Lynn), David (Judy), Chris (Heather) and step-children Ardy (Drew), Maya (Rod), Ingrid (Craig), Desi, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Elly grew up in Amsterdam, Netherlands during WWII and immigrated to Canada with her husband and eldest daughter in 1957, where she lived an extraordinary life. Elly always loved to sing, play piano, dance, knit, sew, swim, play games, travel, walk and embrace new learning. Mom will be remembered as an incredibly strong, hardworking, courageous, resilient, and optimistic woman who inspired many who knew and loved her.

Our family is sincerely grateful to the staff at Westminster House for their compassionate care for Mom during her final years with dementia, and to step-daughter, Ingrid, who supported Mom with many years of eldercare.

Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Elly’s life at Victory Memorial 14831 28 Ave, Surrey, BC on Wednesday, April 3 at 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Cancer Foundation in memory of Elly’s two life partners and daughter, or a charity of your choosing.
