Daughter to Mary Turnbull (Ernie) and the late Douglas Fleming.
Middle sister to the late Cathie Sundstrom (Wayne) and Lori Fleming (Andy Nemeth)
Aunt to Dawn Smith (Jim) , Sara Lowenstein (Michael) and Eric Sundstrom (Margo)
Great Auntie to Alexis, Sophie, Lily, Ryder, Pierce and Makadie.
Debbie was born in Vancouver and moved to Surrey at an early age. The Birdland neighbourhood was filled with families. The Cooper and Fleming girls figure skated, played softball and joined Brownies and Girl Guides together. The Bolivars shared their family cabin at Fawn Lake with Debbie; there she enjoyed playing cards, fishing and eating Bud’s roll ups. The Hollands were her travel companions, Legionnaires and lifelong friends.
Debbie’s career began as a teenage at Hamilton Harvey. After the store’s takeover by Zellers, she was promoted to Toy Department supervisor and ended her 27 year career as a Systems Supervisor. It was through her work life that she met many friends.
Debbie loved clowns - Emmett Kelly, Bozo, Freddie the Freeloader and J.P. Patches. Debbie loved Kraft Dinner. Debbie loved Family Sundays at Grandmas with aunts, uncles and cousins. Debbie loved her dogs. Debbie loved driving her Chevy Tracker. Debbie loved her brother-in-laws Wayne and Andy and nephew Jim.
Her older sister Cathie gave her the best gift one Valentine’s Day, a precious niece named Dawn. She in turn gave her two beautiful great nieces: Alexis Catherine and Sophie Grace. The joy they brought into her life was immeasurable.
Debbie was a maker. If you received a crafted card, a beautiful iced birthday cake, or a warm handmade quilt, just know that she loved you.
Her last day started by watching a Hallmark movie with Lori (and offering her two cents)... her Mom and Melanie by her side through the afternoon... and ended peacefully that evening with baby sister Lori beside her.
To all that paid a visit to Debbie, it meant the world to her.
The family wishes to thank the nursing and wellness team at Elim Village Harrison West. Their care and dedication to Debbie was exemplary and the kindness they showed to our family during her last days will never be forgotten.
No service at Debbie’s request. In memory of Debbie, please consider a donation to the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA).
