Donald "Don" George Soutar

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Don Soutar, who left us on July 11, 2026, at the age of 74.

Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, skilled craftsman, storyteller, and friend. He lived a life defined by kindness, humility, hard work, and unwavering generosity. He was the kind of person who could fix just about anything, but more importantly, he was always willing to help anyone who needed him.

Although Don and Barb had known one another for many years, their friendship blossomed into a lifelong partnership in 1988. Together they built a beautiful life filled with adventure, laughter, and unconditional love, marrying in 2009 after more than two decades together. Whether travelling in their trailer, embarking on unforgettable adventures to Alaska, or simply enjoying time together by the water, they found joy in life's simplest moments. Their love was built on friendship, mutual respect, unwavering support, and a deep appreciation for sharing life's journey together.

When Don joined Barb's family, he embraced Chris, Scott, and Katie as his own. He loved them unconditionally and was a constant source of strength, guidance, and support throughout their lives. That same love extended beyond his immediate family to his nephews, Jason and Chuck, the sons of his eldest sister. Don cared for them as though they were his own, and they held a special place in his heart.

Don was an exceptional general contractor who took great pride in his work and earned the respect of everyone who knew him. There seemed to be nothing he couldn't build, repair, or figure out, and he approached every project with pride, precision, and a belief that any problem had a solution.

Outside of work, Don found his greatest joy outdoors. He loved fishing, golfing, spending time on the water, water skiing in his younger years, competing in fast-pitch tournaments, camping, and any adventure that brought him into nature. Whether casting a line, teeing off with friends, or setting off on another trip with Barb, he embraced life with enthusiasm and appreciation for every moment.

Don had a remarkable gift for storytelling. Whether gathered around a campfire, out on the boat, at the dinner table, or simply enjoying an afternoon with family and friends, he could captivate a room with stories that made everyone laugh. His stories became part of the fabric of family life and will continue to be shared for generations.

Nothing softened Don's heart more than his grandchildren. They brought him endless pride and joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them. He also had a lifelong love for dogs, who always seemed to recognize the gentle soul behind his quiet strength.

Don was truly one of the good ones, gone far too soon. He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, integrity, and countless memories that will forever live on in those who knew him.

He is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Barb; his children, his cherished grandchildren, his nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.

Though Don's story has come to an end, the stories he shared and the example he set, will continue to be told around dinner tables, campfires, fishing trips, golf courses, and family gatherings for generations to come.
