With great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother and friend Douglas Alan Heron of Langley B.C. After a heroic 18 year battle with Cancer, Doug passed away with his family by his side on Jan 20th 2026.
Doug is survived by his loving wife Sandra, Daughter's Amanda (Carlo) and Nicole. Sons Dan (Tamara), Kyle and Justin. Sisters Sandy and Arlana(Jaime). Brother in-law John, Grandchildren Zack, Emily, Ryan, Tyler and Bentley. Paisleigh, Teaghan and Oaklan will forever miss their Uncle Doug.
He is predeceased by his parents Don and Betty Heron, Brother-in-law Barry, Granddaughter Luciella and good friends Rob and Norm.
Doug was a talented, cheerful and loving man who had a passion for Boats, bikes and building things. The latest being his 32' Ford hotrod that he built during his fight with Cancer.
Doug also was handy around the home, he could fix just about anything and knew so much information about many different topics, he was very smart. He also really took pride in his yard, when he was doing good he loved to mow the lawn and keep things looking tip top.
Doug was born June 25th 1960 in Kamloops to Don and Betty Heron. He was the middle child having an older sister Sandy and younger sister Arlana. Doug spent his early years in Kamloops. He played hockey and ball, swam and skied. He was a part of a large extended family having more than 40 cousins. There was always a reunion or function to attend. His grandparents were farmers and ranchers, so as a boy he spent time on the farm. He would help with rounding up the cattle, feeding livestock and even branding the calves.
It was early on that Doug found his passion. “Engines” fixing them, tearing them apart and building them.
In his early 20s Doug moved to Langley to work for Rick Bitz who he had worked for in Kamloops. They built speed boats, raced them and sold them. Throughout the rest of his life there was always someone that wanted Doug to work on their boat or Harley Davidson. He built his 1932 Ford which he would take to the Langley Crusin' and Deuce days in Victoria.
He met his wife Sandy in Kamloops. They moved down to Langley with a bunch of friends in 1986.
They were together until his passing. During the 20 years of his multiple myeloma she was always by his side looking after him and caring for him.
Amanda is Doug and Sandy's Daughter. She brought such joy to her father and took such loving care of him. Amanda married Carlo and he too jumped in with helping hands. He would bring Doug to Kamloops so we could all see him. We all know how much Doug relied on Carlo.
Doug was always happy to see you and made everyone feel special. Throughout all the pain he always seemed to be smiling. It is because of this he had the best friends always looking in on him and doing whatever they could to help. To name a few Rick, Richard, Andrew, Phil, Hut and of course his cousin Don. Having great neighbors also helped a lot, from shoveling the driveway, to bringing up bins. His family will always appreciate that.
Hazel, the puppy who just recently came into Doug’s life and filled his days, kept him busy and happy, will also miss Doug. He would watch her during the day while Amanda and Carlo were at work. He insisted, it was Douggies Doggie Daycare we joked.
His family and friends are missing him dearly, we hope time will ease the pain but he was loved so much and even though he was suffering for many years, it still feels like a shock and sudden.
Their is a celebration of life planned for March 21 at the Murrayville Community Hall at 1pm.
