Chief Warrant Officer Mclean proudly served in the Navy from 1954 - 1989
32 years in Meteorology and Oceanography, the last 3 years as Base Chief Warrant Officer.
Born in Cupar Saskatchewan. He joined the RCN in 1954 as a Meteorological Observer receiving his initial training at RCAF station in 1955. His first tour of duty was served at VU-33 Sqn, Pat Bay, B.C. followed by a tour aboard HMCS Ontario. CWO Mclean returned to VU - 33 Sen in 1957 where he served till 1961. He met his wife Rita and married in 1959 and started their family the following year.
During the sixties they moved east, finished having their last two kids.
Dwayne completed his trade group three serving aboard HMCS Saguenay and HMCS Nipigon. He was promoted to Petty Officer Second Class in 1964 and Petty Officer First Class in 1967.
In 1969 CWO Mclean was posted to the Canadian Forces School Of Meteorology in both CFB Trenton and CFB Winnipeg. In 1975 he was promoted to MWO and held the position of Senior Instructor and Standards at CFBMET. In 1980 he was posted to CFB Edmonton as senior Met Tech and BOPS MWO. He was promoted to CWO in 1983 and went to Air Command HQ as the Command Meteorological Inspector where he remained until his last out of trade position as Base Warrant Officer at CFB Shearwater.
In 1989 he and his wife retired to Nanaimo BC. They enjoyed a life of travels and remained friends with people all across Canada. Dwayne enjoyed salmon fishing, golfing, hiking, camping and touring around Vancouver Island and Hawaii with his wife. Dwayne was an active volunteer for many years as a stage manager and building manager for the Nanaimo Theatre Group. His favourite time was having family and friends visit. He was the greatest host. He enjoyed sitting outside watching the world go by.
We will always remember his cheerful, laidback nature.
Predeceased by his wife Rita Mclean and sister Merle Reid.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Richard (Karen), Laura (Dave), Bruce (Darby), Michael (Michelle); Grandchildren Brodie and Derek (Stephanie), Tannis (Jon), Samantha and Sierra, Great grandchildren Presley and Nova. Brother Bob (Peter) and many more extended family and friends.
A small family gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate his life.
