October 30, 1926 – March 27, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Garfield William Cooper of Surrey at the age of 95.
Born in Innisfail, Alberta, a rural farming community, he was the youngest of 7 children. In search of work opportunities, he moved to Vancouver at a young age, where he also met his beloved soulmate Marion, whom he married in 1945. Together they had two beautiful children. Garfield worked as a timber/log scaler for 44 years, a career that took him to many parts of the province. His fondest memories were those of dinners, dancing and good country music, always looking his best for every occasion. Among some of Garfield’s favourite activities were playing golf, watching his daughter figure skate, and coaching his son’s softball and hockey teams. He was a diehard fan of the Toronto Bluejays and Calgary Flames. Never turning down an opportunity to take on a new project, especially those that involved car repair, he will be remembered as the “do-it-yourselfer”. Garfield lived every day with a smile on his face and a kind heart, always willing to lend a hand.
He leaves behind his loving wife of almost 76 years, Marion, sister Mary, son Todd (Nancy), grandchildren Amber (Dave), Tyler (Dana), Kaitlyn, Jordan, Danielle, and great-grandchildren Alexander and Landon. Garfield is predeceased by brothers Joe, Clifford, Bud, George, Cecil and his beloved daughter Judi.
