It is with sadness that we share the news of the passing of Gordon Patterson Stewart. His 90 years with us showed that he was a man of many talents who touched the lives of many and who was a wonderful exemplar of the popular quote:
The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away. This was Gord.
Born and raised in Sasketchewan, Gord grew up on a farm and was running it before he was 18. He met his first wife Marg and together, they had three children; Grant, Bob, and Cathy. When that first marriage ended, Gord went back to high school and got his diploma (he was 35 at the time) and headed out to B.C. Here he met and married Maureen and welcomed her children, Savannagh, Larry, and Darren as his own.
His working career included many things. Beyond farming, Gord worked in sheet metal, was a mechanic, installed aluminum railings, and his favourite role, supervised newspaper carriers for the Vancouver Sun.
In his free time, Gord became an avid woodworker and then baker. While both of these hobbies brought joy to others, that joy paled in comparison to the joy it brought Gord in giving it away.
All who met Gord were influenced by his ever-present sense of humour and his positive outlook on life. He always made time to listen, gave great advice, was never judgmental, and with a 47 year commitment to A.A., he was a rock for many.
While it is indeed sad that Gord is gone, we are comforted knowing that he was excited to see what comes next. To our dad, grandpa, and friend - thank you. The love we carry in our hearts is a direct result of the unconditional love you gave.
At Gord's request, there will be no service.
