So many wonderful memories in her short life.  Helen was a wonderful person, a devoted daughter, a supportive sister to Rod, a loving wife to Robert, and the best Mum in the world to Ellie (and to many of her friends).  Helen lived her life to the fullest and we, as a family, shared lots and lots of  special moments along the way.  White Rock was her 'home' for 30 years  and the community soon became her passion - Helen will be missed  by many and will always be remembered with much love.  Don't worry Helen, we will look after each other.  Mum, xxxxxxxxx   

How will I remember Helen?  I know she loved her family, Olive and her garden passionately.  She would defend what was right, good and kind every time.  She was a dear friend who I cherished.  Her memory lives on in Rob and Ellie and for the work she championed on council and at the White Rock Farmers’ Market.  RIP Helen my friend….until we meet again.

"We merely pass through a doorway into the next room."                There are many of us who wish Helen had lingered longer with us in OUR room. But no matter.  We'll meet again....we all go Home together and it's wonderful.

She was a sunshine of Smiles-She was a gift to us all. We remember meeting her for the first time on one of our walks through the neighborhood. Her friendliness was a breath of fresh air. White Rock community is filled with friendly people, but she stood out for us.  We had a wonderful chat...so wish I had many more.  She had a smile for everyone that past her path.  Every time I was at the WR Farmers Market she had a smile for me.  So sorry to see we have lost a treasure/angel. She earned her wings so soon, but we have been blessed and I believe her spirit will live in all of us, to continue in her work.  We thank her deeply for the services to the community of White Rock.  Our prayers go out to her family. May the many memories and time ease the pain and loss.  She will be forever in your hearts.  Look up to the bright star, she will be shining down at you. Helen was an amazing person, so devoted to our community. I will always remember her beautiful smile and humour.   I will truly miss her.

It is with profound sadness that we read about the passing of Helen Fathers of blessed memory.
Although Helen attended our yearly Chanukah events as a representative of The City of White Rock we always felt that she was there as our friend. She often told us how much she looked forward to our events and how happy she was about what we were accomplishing and we felt that she meant it. 

We watched her daughter Ellie grow over the years and saw Helen's motherly pride.  Her interactions and care for her community was genuine and being in her presence always made me smile.  Helen's passing is a great loss for our entire community.  

Our deep condolences go out to her family and to the Mayor and Council of White Rock.

Helen always had a friendly Smile to share, a Heart for our community and  Love of Life. I’ll miss you my friend, may you always Shine brightly down on us.

Helen chatted with me every Sunday at the Farmer’s Market. She was always smiling and easy to talk to. Petting my dog, snuggling my baby and asking if my baby and dog were okay. Helen was amazing on council and wonderful in the community. She is missed.

Helen was an extraordinary woman with a heart of gold and a passion for serving our community. Every time I visit the White Rock Farmer’s Market, I never hesitate to say hello and engage in a pleasant conversation with her. She would always light up the room with a huge smile on her face. I met Helen as part of the Peace Arch Elementary School where Ellie and my boys, Fred and Jacob attended. We quickly bonded over a familiar birth place, love of 80’s and 90’s Brit pop music and the ups and downs of the preteen years. I’ve always felt you could bump into Helen anywhere in the world, regardless of whether you saw her yesterday or ten years ago and her warmth and familiarity would be like your most comfy sweater. Her bright light has left this world too soon. I know she is in a place with happiness and no pain but it’s a hard pain to bear for her loving family, friends and community left to miss her so very much.

We moved into our little house just a few months before you and Rob. We had our first child with us then , Ellie arrived a few years later along with our second son . The kids grew up together , school events , birthdays , street hockey , block parties , field trips , family gatherings, looking for lost cats !Helen you were always a strong presence with a big heart . I watched so many acts of kindness from you over the years totally unrelated to your career as a civil servant . There was a sense of family on our street  that cared for each other and you were a huge part of that loving energy .I do not know how to say goodbye , I will just say see you again . You were a good friend .Ellie and Rob and Margaret we are forever family.

Helen Tribute Feb 2022

I met Helen through a course we had both signed up for and carpooled with a bunch of other people into Vancouver for the better part of a week.  Thus began a friendship that would last for over 25 years.  We shared much laughter and a few tears along the way.  I babysat her cats, notably "Rooster" who came with her from England, when she and Rob went on holiday and when mama Kitty had 4 kittens on Elvis Presley's birthday in 2011 I adopted the 2 boys (now old men in catspeak).  

Helen had so many interests and bubbled over with enthusiasm.  Thinking back, her most precious interest was people.  She loved the stories and took everything to heart.  She had an intuitive, compassionate understanding of people and when they laughed, she laughed and when they cried she always lent both shoulders.  And her heart.

Helen's untimely passing was a shock to many of us and her presence will be terribly missed by her family, her friends, her community.  I take comfort in the words by Kahlil Gibran: 

"If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.  For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.  And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?  And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance."

My heartfelt condolences to Helen's family and friends, most especially to Rob, Ellie and Maggie.

Helen was an amazing woman! Passionate, funny, loving, resilient, beautiful inside and out. I'm going to miss her very much! We spent 16 years on the market board. You get to know each other very well! She was such a strong presence,  that I still can't believe she's gone. She loved Rob and Ellie to the moon and back. They were always there at the market helping out. It was a family affair. Mom Margaret was also a permanent fixture, helping out in any way she could. Helen leaves a hole in our hearts. She will be missed by many. Sending love and strength to the family.

" I Love You"

 

I love you Helen.  For the past number of years whether in person or on the phone, we would more often than not say the words I LOVE YOU.

Monday shortly before we started our 7 p.m.regular council meeting, mayor DARRYL WALKER had the difficult job of informing council our dearly beloved fellow councillor Helen Fathers had passed away.  We all sat there in stone cold silence.  Despite Helen being sick for a number of months it still came as a shock of the finality of  Helen’s passing.    Family was everything to Helen.

Her loving husband Rob, daughter Ellie and mother Margaret were her riches.  She loved them all so deeply, today I can’t imagine the loss they feel.   

I could prattle on and on and tell  you all the funny stories and good times Helen and I shared.  But I won’t.
All I can say is, what I always said when I said goodbye to Helen, I Love You.
