It was in 2002 that the Peddemors Family was introduced to a mysterious person who had captured our Mother's heart. Ian Polley was a gentle giant and won our hearts over for the next 16 years. 

This story has a beginning and a catch. There was a time when the internet was a wild and crazy place. People began to talk with strangers across the internet. We all know You,

ve got mail Instead of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, in this case it was when Ada and Ian. After a short period of emails and chatting, Ian and Ada began dating. Things progressed to the point where Ada's car would be in Visitor's parking at Bishop's Green far too often for the Strata Council. A Parking violation notice was left on her car. She was in violation of the Strata Parking rules for staying too long. Ian took advantage of the situation to tell Ada that she must start parking her car in the Garage and since she would be parking in the garage she might as well just move in. 

We met Ian and the Polley family a short time later. The Polley family were a wonderful and fun group of people. We were overjoyed that our mother had found not only found such an easy going partner but a person who enjoyed our company as well. 

Over the years the families were welcomed to many festive occasions. Ian and Ada loved to entertain the new family group. Ian would sit at the head of the table presiding over the dinner, listening to the conversation and then al of a sudden pop in and say something like Well in my time or When I was Young or I remember and then proceed to tell us a fine story. We all got a chance to learn more about Ian and his life experiences. There were many stories. Biking, Policing were the two main passions that we would often hear about and the experiences that Ian enjoyed. Those stories will remain with us always.

Ian was always, so welcoming over the years and you could see the life partnership grow between Ada and Ian. The two of them were like two peas in a pod. Although those peas were of different size they were exactly alike and comfortable in their pod.

Many people did not know Ian a way with flowers. He would always pick the first rose of spring from the garden and present it to Ada and then at very end of the season present the Last Rose of Rose of Summer, one of his favorite tunes. He was always so thoughtful and caring.

Ian enjoyed his Scottish heritage. His happy go lucky nature led him to sing Scottish and Celtic songs in car on every outing. Whether is was just a joy ride or on the long daily treks to Abbotsford, Ian would sing his favorite songs and pass the time serenading Ada. Those songs rooted him with his past and he enjoyed the time to be who he was. A real entertainer that made the road travelled less weary.

Ian was a man with many hats. He had his two favorites. The Tilley hat was worn when the weather was overly sunny or a little rainy.  His Zorba the Greek hat was used for casual outings and day to day routine. It would be hard to tell which was his favorite and likely would have worn both if he could. It must have been an old habit from his police days to wear something on his head outdoors. 

Funny thing is, no matter which hat he wore he was always Ian, Loving Father, Dedicated Husband and a fun a gentle sole. He will fondly be remembered by our family and missed by all of us. Thank you, Ian, for sharing your time and catching our hearts.

Ada, wij condoleren jullie allen met het verlies Ian, en wensen jullie alle mogelijke sterkte toe bij het verwerken van dit verdriet. Wij vinden het fijn elkaar nog zo leuk hebben mogen ontmoeten in Holland. Is toch een goede herinnering.

My deepest condolences to Ian's family. The warmth and love that filled Ian and Ada's home is something I won't soon forget. Love to all whose lives Ian touched.

I am so very sad to hear of Ian's passing. I think fondly of all the good times spent together in Vancouver. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

We are heartbroken for your loss.  We have fond memories of Ian's stories from the Scottish Sutherland side.  Our sincere condolences.
