Ian Duncan Shaw

With heavy hearts, we share the news of Ian's unexpected passing. Ian, the eldest son of Don and Yvonne Shaw; graduated from River East Collegiate, class of 1973, in Winnipeg, MB. He embarked on his career journey in Vancouver, BC during his early 20s, starting at the Pacific Press Newspaper as a dedicated mailer until 2015. Subsequently, he immersed himself in the bustling atmosphere of Enterprise Car Rental at Vancouver International Airport, where he cultivated numerous friendships.

Ian leaves behind a legacy cherished by his loving mother, Yvonne; his sister, Karen; two brothers, Neil and Garth; his children, Melissa and Alexander; stepchildren, Robert and Kenneth; and three adored grandchildren: Jaxson, Julia, and Ethan.

Continuing his late wife’s passion for gardening in Glen Valley, Ian, alongside his children, perpetuated her green legacy, nurturing her cherished garden and sharing his expertise with others. He found solace in tinkering with his car, embarking on leisurely bike rides, and relishing quality time with friends.

Ian's heart found its true home on the Big Island of Hawaii, where he delighted in daily walks, engaging conversations with Kona Makai's resident. You could always find him at the beach taking videos of the waves, or putting on his snorkel gear. Ian looked forward to his Hawaii trips every February.

Actively participating in his AA men’s group, Ian recently celebrated a remarkable milestone—35 years of sobriety. He epitomized gratitude for his journey, spreading the beacon of hope and resilience to those in need.

Ian’s absence leaves a profound void, yet his memory will forever illuminate our hearts. The family extends heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of kindness and support during this difficult time, a testament to Ian's enduring impact.

Join us in celebrating Ian's remarkable life at the Victory Funeral Centre, 14831 28 Avenue, Surrey, on February 25, 2024, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to AA BC/Yukon Area #79.
