Irene Macrosson, 91, of South Surrey, BC, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2026. Born on February 16, 1935 in Glasgow, Scotland to Murdoch and Jeannie Agnew, she was the youngest of 5 children. She went into nursing school at age 16 and became a nurse in the operating room and later, a midwife.
At a young age, Irene loved to read. She and her siblings, Jess, Bet, George, and Chris would sing and do cryptic crosswords. She continued to do these crosswords into her 90’s even when her sight was so poor that she couldn’t see the puzzle. The clues would be read to her and she would get the puzzle done quickly; much more quickly than people half her age and with 20/20 vision.
She met her husband, Kenneth, at work in the Operating Room. They lived in Glasgow until they immigrated to Canada in 1968. They arrived in Brandon, Manitoba, moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan and finally settled into White Rock, BC in 1986. She was a terrific Contract Bridge player and played in tournaments across North America.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, and their 3 children, Kirsty (Jon), Scott (Diane), and Kay (Dan) and their 5 grand children, Scott, Emily, Elsa, Evelyn and Lucy.
There will be a Celebration of Life held on Friday September 11th, 2026 at 12pm at the Victory Memorial Park, 14832 28th Ave, Surrey, BC.
