A very special lady, Irene Mills, now resides in her new eternal home with God. The eldest of two, (predeceased by sister Verna) she was an amazing 4ft. 9 bundle of energy, love, light and laughter, one who loved the Lord and took every opportunity to evangelize that love. She was known to sit down in coffee shops with strangers and strike up conversations which ultimately turned toward Jesus and she had such a way about her that no one ever was rude or belligerent. How could they - she was magnetic in her love for Jesus!
Irene came to the Lord in baptism in 1967, and since then faith has been the backbone of her life. Many Sundays were spent at the Glad Tidings church and Christian Life Assembly. For some years, she did many odd jobs until she found her niche in the hospital, employed as a "medical device reprocessing technician” sterilizing all tools and other devices used in surgeries as well as incubators for newborn infants, at both Vancouver General and Grace Hospitals. Sterilization methods were changed in hospitals partly because she was so good at her job and exposed areas that needed attention. On her retirement, she received a monogramed silver tray commemorating 25 years of service at Grace Hospital.
She met her friend Lois Greenlay of Miskela Kennels at Glad Tidings when Irene met Lois during an Alter Call. Lois was building a dog showing and kennel business and together these two ladies embarked upon many interesting adventures. They worked tirelessly and eventually were able to take some well-deserved holidays going on a number of cruises and even went on two trips to Israel, spending some considerable time in Jerusalem.
Following the passing of Lois, Irene took up residence at Elim Village, a Christian retirement home in Surrey, B.C. where she has made many friends and fully enjoyed the many activities including the walking club, art classes and the many games nights she enjoyed with residents. She is beloved by all and remembered for her ready laugh and love of the Lord that radiated from her.
Predeceased by sister Verna (and Verna's two children, Rena and Loretta) and Loretta's son Rick. Survived by children of Loretta-- Scott, and Colin Cooper (Monique Zsovak); and Colin's children Madison, (and new baby girl on the way) Lauren, and James.
Celebration of this wonderful lady's life will be at Elim Village, Emerald Building, 9080 - 159 St. Surrey, B.C. on Sat., March 22, from 2 - 3:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room on the lower floor.
