It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John "Jack" Gibson on June 28, 2026, at the age of 76. Jack passed away in our family home, surrounded by the love of his family. He suffered from a stroke four years ago and faced his illness with remarkable courage and determination, fighting until the very end with the same quiet strength that defined his entire life.
To many he was Jack. To his family he was simply “Pops” and “Grandpa Jack”.
Jack was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Everything he did was for his family. A hardworking and dedicated provider, he never hesitated to work away from home or take on additional jobs if it meant giving those he loved a better life. His quiet sacrifices, unwavering work ethic, and unconditional love created a life of security and happiness for all of us.
Jack enjoyed a long and fulfilling career, dedicating nearly four decades with BC Tel and later Telus, where he worked from 1973 until his retirement in 2011. He genuinely loved his work and the people he worked with alongside, forming friendships that lasted a lifetime.
He shared 55 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Susan. Together they built a loving home, a life rooted in love and loyalty. He was an incredibly proud dad to his daughter Sarah, his sons Keith and Grant, and warmly welcomed his daughter-in-law Julie into the family. Becoming Grandpa Jack to Aubrey and Wesley was one of his biggest joys, especially spending time with them in our backyard and seeing them and their friends enjoy the pool. He was also a loving son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend whose kindness and dependability touched many lives.
Outside of work, Jack found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He took great pride in his yard, where he could often be found with a cold beer in hand. He loved playing crib, shooting pool, and loved to dance – especially with his wife Sue. His soundtrack was the music of Otis Redding, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Van Morrison. Those afternoons spent in the backyard will forever remain some of our family’s most treasured memories.
Jack also found great happiness in Bucerías, Mexico, where we shared a family home and countless unforgettable moments together. It was a place filled with beach time, beers, sunshine, family dinners, and memories that will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
Those who knew Jack will remember a man with quiet strength and great loyalty. He simply showed his love through hard work, steady support, and always putting his family first. His greatest legacy is not only the life he built, but the values he passed on, a strong work ethic, resilience, and unconditional love.
Although our hearts are profoundly saddened, we take comfort in knowing his suffering has ended and that he passed peacefully, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply.
Jack leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories that will continue to comfort us.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
