Jim, beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away May 17, 2026, in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, at the age of 93 years. He was born on July 2,1932, in Victoria, BC. He is survived by his sister, Coralie McColman, daughter, Carolyn Moore (John Triolo), son, Victor Moore, daughter-in-law, Ronda Moore, grandchildren Elais Ponton (Gary Dinh), Brianna Ponton, Covy Moore, Brady Moore (Emily Milder), and greatgrandson, Theodore James Ponton Dinh. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite Louise (nee Graham) Moore, and by his parents, Herbert and Yvonne (nee Kelway) Moore.
Jim grew up playing on the lawns of the Parliament Buildings in Victoria. His first jobs were with the Daily Colonist newspaper, fielding calls from unhappy customers whose stained-glass windows had been broken by newspaper boys flinging papers at houses, and a short stint as an accountant with an insurance company. He found his calling working as a manager at the Odeon Theater in Victoria, where he met a candy girl and future wife, Margo. They married in 1955 and started their new life in Burnaby, BC. From 1955 to 1986, Jim worked as a General Manager for Odeon Theaters in Vancouver, BC, Calgary, Alberta, and Toronto, Ontario (Cineplex Odeon). In 1986, he was promoted and lived in London, England, working for the Rank Organization (Group) as Manager of Operations overseeing major UK studio facilities and cinema chains. Jim also owned and operated two theaters in El Centro, California, just before he retired to New Westminster, BC. He was a long-standing member and supporter of the BC Picture Pioneers. Jim was an avid hockey and football fan, but his consummate hobby was shopping. For decades, Jim and his daughter spent Black Fridays in the US hunting down bargain socks and electronics in California, Texas, Nevada, and New Mexico.
Jim’s wit and wisdom will be deeply missed by his loving family and his many business partners and friends. Jim’s ashes will be interred at the First Memorial “Garden of Memories,” in Victoria, BC. A private family celebration of Jim’s life will take place at a later date.
