It is with sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our dear “Auntie” Jean Marie Cassidy of Surrey BC on August 13, 2026 at Peace Arch Hospital. Jean was the youngest of four born to Michael and Mary Ellen (O’Donnell) Cassidy on a farm in St. Albert, Alberta. She cherished her roots and was so proud of her Irish heritage.
She developed a love for animals at an early age and loved riding her horse Snookums to and from school. Her welcoming house was always home to pets.
Jean was predeceased by her parents and her siblings: sister Irene (Martin) Betts of Crescent Beach Heights, sister Audrey, San Jose, California, brother Harold, and nephews Dale and Todd Cassidy all from St. Albert, and nephew Ken Betts of Surrey.
Jean will lovingly be remembered by her Cassidy family, Irene (Dale), Joan (Todd), Kerry ( Torok- Both), Carmen (Pronovost) and her Betts family, Peggy, Alex, Spencer, Colin, Marty and many great nieces and nephews on both sides.
Jean will also be greatly missed by friends and CWL members at Star of the Sea Parish, neighbours and former neighbours on Seacrest Drive/ Crescent Drive where she made her mark, Fraser Health public health nurse community and her Chartwell Crescent Gardens family.
After procuring a nursing degree at U of A, Jean delved into a career of public health in B.C . “Nurse Cassidy” was enthusiastic in her home care visits from Whalley to Cloverdale, and made school visits to inoculate children eventful for the kids and principals. There was no task too daunting for Jean. We will remember her fondly for her colourful storytelling, her ongoing political commentary on world affairs, her fabulous support of CFL, Highschool and university football. She was quite the character we were fortunate to know.
To celebrate the wonderful life of Jean, a Funeral mass will be held at Good Shepherd Church located at 2250 150th St, South Surrey on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 11 AM followed by fellowship and refreshments in the church reception area 12 noon to 1:30 PM
