

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Michel Kovacs. Known to everyone as John, the loved father, partner, and respected friend, passed away on March 21st, 2024, in Surrey, British Columbia.
Born on September 13, 1945, in the picturesque village of Montastruc, France. John and his older sister Terry immigrated to Canada with their parents, John, and Anna, who were farmers. In 1948 they settled in Dewdney, British Columbia, where his younger sister Annie was born a few years later.
John dedicated 35 years of his life to serving as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Early in his career, John became a forensic documents examiner. Following his retirement from the force, he remained as a civilian member for a period of time. Further demonstrating his dedication to his craft, he continued to freelance, working on cases privately until September 2023.
A man of many skills and interests, John lived a rich and fulfilling life. He was known for his love of nature and the outdoors with a passions for camping, fishing, and hunting. John also never turned down a good poker game with friends.
John is survived by his devoted partner Teresa, his children Michelle, and Dan (Janice), their mother Marilyn, and his cherished grandchildren Kale, Ǫuinn, Abby, and Seren.
The family would like to show their appreciation to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff at Surrey Memorial Hospital, and Laurel Place Care Centre during John’s final few months. A celebration of John's life will be held on April 28th, 2024, at the Freemasons Hall – 508 Agnes Street, New Westminster. The service will begin at 2:00 p.m.
