Our deepest condolences go out to Marilyn, Ryan (Michelle), Alison (Tyler) and grandchildren.  We met Gary in 1989 when he coached our son, Scott on the successful Padres North Delta Minor Baseball team.  Gary always had a smile on his face and was known for his positive coaching style.  It was this encouraging attitude and enthusiasm that had such a positive influence on all the players he coached over the years.  It was always a joy to interact with Gary.

I met Gary at BC Hydro. He was one of the good guys. He was a little gruff on the outside but a big old teddy bear once you got to know him. His legacy won’t ever be forgotten.

I was privileged to have Gary as a supervisor and mentor during the time I worked as the Founder and Manager of the Aboriginal Relations Department at BC Hydro.  He provided guidance on the organizational aspects that are not in any manuals and he fully embraced learning about Indigenous  Relations and the options for addressing concerns and building a good relationship going forward. 
My heart goes out to his  family whom I know were the real centre of Gary's life and I offer prayers for the family as you learn how to be without him in the physical world.  Our traditional teachers remind us that we are connected to those we love though all time.   They say that when we hurt, our departed hurt so we should hold onto the good memories of our dear ones and reminding them  of how loved and  missed they are in this realm.  Sincere condolences.

Marilyn and family wishing you comfort and peace to face the days ahead and loving memories to hold in your heart. I have been thinking a lot about Gary these days and was recalling that we must have played over a 1000 golf games together over the years.  The laughs the conversations the glasses of red wine will be forever remembered.  Discussing the Canucks, his view on the politics of the day or how the move to electric cars would be a challenge on the power grid were just a few. But what I will remember the most was when we talked about our families.   Marilyn his children and grandchildren  were always the most important thing in the world to him. He always made a point on asking me how Jo Ann my wife was and took a genuine real interest on how my son  Sam was doing.  He was that kind of genuine kind hearted friend. I hope these words brings you some level of comfort knowing that we are all here to support you in whatever way we can.

Gary was so supportive of me when I worked for him in Corporate Environment. I think he rolled his eyes a number of times when I came up with crazy ideas to become a sustainable company but he kept me grounded which I appreciated so much. My condolences to Marilyn, Ryan and Alison and all of Gary's family. He was the real deal and will be missed.

My deepest and most sincere sympathies . A man of outstanding principles and integrity who positively influenced so many of us at BCHydro who were fortunate to have known him.

Gary was an Executive with integrity who supported his employees - he let you get on with your job and backed up your decisions when necessary!  His family should be proud of his work ethic and contribution to BC and BC Hydro.

I remember Gary teaching me to do storm response by making it really simple.  I also remember him taking me out for lunch when I first became VP of what is now known as MoveUP to establish a great employer/union relationship.

Gary was a wonderful cousin. I have great memories of the times we have had together growing up and getting together with our families throughout our lives. May the wonderful memories of Gary help you through this sad time. We will all miss him!

Our memories of Gary and Marilyn and the Rodford family are dear. The familial bond between Marilyn and Brian is, of course, natural and primary. When we were young adults in the 1970s, we met Gary who was very pleased to fall in love with Marilyn. His parents were pleased too. They were a  great match and they created a rewarding life. True wealth is in the treasure of relationships.

Gary was always receptive and appreciative of Marilyn’s family. He’d open the door to their home and warmly welcome us, radiating enthusiasm. He loved humour and had a robust laugh. Gary was credible and caring. He delighted over a meal prepared to please him and we enjoyed many meals in our homes or for a special evening out. Our mutual enthusiasm for excellent food was part of our bonding.

We danced at Marilyn and Gary’s wedding, welcomed children and mourned the loss of parents and good friends. Again we danced at their grown-up children’s weddings, delighted in grandchildren, and shared celebrations. 

Back in the 70s before we had children, Gary and Marilyn took a road trip with us in eastern Canada and the USA. It was easy travelling with people who were game and open to new vistas. 

We have shared some of the milestones of life and wish we were blessed with more. We are grateful despite our grief.  We share tenderness with both families for this loss. Lovingly, Brian and Cathy Goss ….photo April 25, 2016
