Ken was born February 18, 1955 in Nairobi, Kenya – eldest of 3 children to Alan and Tutta (nee Holt). His parents had relocated from Scotland and Norway, respectively, for jobs in Kenya. In 1965, when Ken was 10 yrs old, the family immigrated to Canada. Ken flourished in school and the rural area life of southern Ontario. To be closer to family, the McLennan’s packed up and moved West arriving in Quesnel summer 1971. While finishing his schooling in Quesnel, Ken kicked off a 47 year sales career by working at Keen’s Menswear. In 1973 he went to college in Prince George while working at Woodward’s further honing his sales skills.
He married Diane Douglas in the summer of 1974 and they had 2 beautiful children, Adriane and Alistair. He continued to work in sales and could be found traveling western Canada. Sadly Alistair passed away at the age of 6. Shortly after this Ken started life on his own living in Vernon, Salmon Arm and finally landing in White Rock. Adriane was always a part of her Dad’s life of “one man wandering”. He enjoyed reading, biking, skiing, hiking and walking – especially the White Rock promenade.
He always had a passion for photography and continued to chronicle his life thru a lens for all these years.
He began work for AstenJohnston in 1995 as a pulp mill technical sales rep responsible for the western seaboard and Asia. He was in his glory!! In 2002 he met Kari and a new chapter began – he had found his life partner and an extended family. They were married July 2004 and shortly thereafter moved to Singapore with AstenJohnston. They met many new friends while enjoying the cultural experience of living overseas. At this time Ken did not drive for 2 years as he was provided a personal driver – he was happy to get behind the wheel again when they returned in 2010. Next stop was Montreal where Ken continued with inside sales all the while adding to their adventures. Finally in 2013 they returned to White Rock where they have continued to reside. Ken recently celebrated 24 years with AstenJohnson and was close to retirement. He enjoyed time with his loving wife Kari, his church community, a wee nip of scotch & pipe, grandchildren and connecting with family. His presence has blessed so many people.
Left to treasure Ken forever is his devoted wife of 15 years, Kari; mother Tutta (predeceased by his father, Alan); daughter Adriane (Travis) Budgeon - granddaughter Emmeline; (predeceased by his son, Alistair); step-daughter Katherine (Ian) Reynolds – grandchildren Oliver, Leighton and Pippa; step-son Jon Schmitz – granddaughter Jadin.
