Lars Valfrid Harold Dahlgren

Lars thrived in Fraser Lake for over 60 years, contributing to the logging industry while raising his family. After retiring at the urging of his wife, he moved to Parksville, BC. Following her passing in 2009, he relocated to Delta to be closer to his three sons.

Known as Larry, he was a man of few words, but when he spoke, people listened. He played a vital role in helping several individuals start their careers in the trucking industry and was a staunch advocate for truckers throughout his life. His steady, honest, and deep-thinking nature allowed those around him to flourish.

A creator at heart, Lars filled his home with model airplanes, musical instruments, and projects of all kinds. With logs from the land, he helped build the "Pines Hid-a-way" and a second Dahlgren homestead. In retirement, he constructed a miniature version of the sawmill he used to cut his own lumber and crafted several miniature steam engines. An early adopter of technology, he owned one of the first televisions, and computers. He owned one of the first electric cars in Canada, not for environmental reasons, but simply because he enjoyed innovative gadgets. In later years, his home was filled with 3D printers, where he helped his son create 3D heart models for doctors as well as ordinary small parts to fix household items. He even learned Photoshop to restore an old photo of his grandmother, Ida.

In his leisure time, Lars enjoyed golfing, fishing, watching TV and tending to his raspberry patch. He loved his pets, Fifi and Lucy.

He is survived by his children Randy (Laurie), Greg (Deb), Jon, and Laurie as well as his four grandchildren Tiffany, Alysha, Jayla, and Lucas and one great-grandchild Florence Joyce. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce (Lindstrom) Dahlgren, his sister Anne Marie Switlo, and his parents.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Morgan Place and Peninsula Retirement Home for their care and compassion during Lars's final days.
