OBITUARY

Dr. Lars Jeffrey Rostvig

21 June, 1947 – 28 February, 2026
IN THE CARE OF

Victory Memorial Park & Funeral Centre

Unforgettable

Dr. Lars Jeffrey “Jeff” Rostvig passed away leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and an unmistakable presence. He is survived by his five children — Lars, Adam, Richard, Hilary, and Grant — their spouses Ryan, Kerrie, Kaylie, and Bre, his cherished grandchildren Landon, Colton, and Mads, his sister Elaine, and his beloved fiancée, Tamara. He also leaves behind countless friends, patients, and members of the South Surrey community whose lives he touched so deeply.

Born in Sunderland, United Kingdom, Jeff left home at a young age to live what can only be described as an extraordinary life. After a brief period with the Royal Air Force, he pursued medicine with purpose and graduated from the University of Manchester in 1978 with his medical degree. Early in his career, he spent time in St. Lucia conducting medical research before ultimately making Canada his home. It was here that he built not only a medical practice, but a community.

Jeff was truly larger than life. He embraced every minute of each day with enthusiasm, humor, and heart. His impact on the community was astonishing. He loved his patients — and they knew it. His clinic doors and his arms were always open. It was rare to see him without a smile, rarer still to meet someone who left his presence without feeling better for it.

He lived boldly and authentically. Quoting Pink Floyd, he would often say, “Don’t be another brick in the wall.” And he never was. Jeff strived to be different, and he was unapologetically himself, in addition to being compassionate, spirited, and unforgettable. He inspired those around him to be the best possible version of themselves, and never failed to help them achieve what he knew to be within reach.

Jeff also had a deep love for reggae music. Its rhythm, warmth, and message of unity reflected the way he moved through life — relaxed, joyful, and connected to people from all walks of life. Whether it was playing in the background or filling the room, reggae was part of the soundtrack to his days and the time spent all of those he loved.

To those who knew and loved him, these words reflect the spirit he carried:

Speak of me as you have always done,

Remember the good times, laughter and fun.

Share the happy memories we've made,

Do not let them wither or fade.

Although things may not be the same,

Don't be afraid to use my name.

Jeff lived a life filled with joy, connection, and meaning. His greatest pride was his family. His greatest gift was his presence. Though he has rested his eyes, the memories he created — the laughter, the lessons, the love — will always remain.

His family asks that you honor him by living fully, loving boldly, and as Bob Marley said, “You just can’t live in that negative way, make way for the positive day.”

Jeff lived that message every single day.
