It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Louise Sprovieri (nee Scavarelli), also known as Mama Lou. On Saturday morning November 28, 2020, Louise passed away peacefully at the age of 93 at Kinsmen Lodge in Surrey, BC. Born on December 30, 1926, in Fort William, Ontario, Louise grew up in the East End, along with her ten brothers and sisters on McLaughlin St. and attended St. Peter’s school.
Louise married her husband, Rudy, on August 9, 1947. She was a loving and devoted wife for 58 years until his passing in 2005.
They were a loving couple that enjoyed dancing, going out for Chinese food, socializing with their many friends, and of course the Sunday spaghetti and meatball dinners with their family. Louise was a wonderful baker and cook and was well-known for her pies and spaghetti sauce. She welcomed many to her home, where you were undoubtedly greeted with a home-cooked meal or a freshly-baked dessert.
Louise was a dedicated mother and homemaker who took delight in her family, always ensuring a tidy, well-organized home. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. Mama-Lou especially cherished her role as a grandmother and expressed unconditional love to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was excited for every visit with them. Her strong personality was something that rubbed off on all of them. They all love her dearly and will never forget her wittiness, charm, and
unconditional love for them.
Louise was small in stature but had a strong will and determined character. A devoted Catholic, Louise was a dedicated parishioner at St. Agnes Church in Thunder Bay, ON and St. Matthew’s Church in Surrey, BC. She prayed for each of her family members daily, and when she prayed, God listened. We will all miss those prayers. In 2006, Louise relocated to Surrey, BC to live with her daughter and granddaughters. She was an active member of the Guildford Walking Club for 25 years and developed many long-lasting friendships and memories that she cherished.
Louise was predeceased by her loving husband Rudy and brothers Nels (Cecilia) and Peter (Louise), and her sisters Rosalie (Johnny), Sarafina (Peter), Vera (Joe) and sister-in-law, Toni. She is survived by brothers Frankie, Jimmy (Honey), Jackie (Nives), and LeRoy (Pat). She is also survived by her son, Frank (Cathi) Sprovieri from Calgary, AB and her daughter Nadine O’Keefe from White Rock, BC, grandchildren Brian (Jacquie) Sprovieri, Frank (Jamie) Sprovieri, Vanessa O’Keefe and Shannon O’Keefe, and great-grandchildren, Nick and Gina Sprovieri and Hannah, Matt and Nathan Sprovieri.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses, care-aids and staff at Kinsmen Lodge in Surrey, BC. They welcomed Mama Lou to their family and provided exceptional care and compassion to her for the past five years.
