It is with much sadness that the family announces the passing of Joan on February 13, 2021 in Surrey, BC. She succumbed to a number of health issues stemming from her courageous battle with cancer, and passed away peacefully. She was a proud and loving mother and will be sadly missed by her sons Robert (Shirley) and Don, and will forever be "gram gram" to her granddaughter Katie. She is also survived by her sister Valerie's daughter Jodi (Kristian), her cousin Geraldine, her brother-in-law Gerry (Sylvia), her sister-in-law Connie and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years John, her mother Hazel and her father John, her sister Valerie, and her cousin Avis. Joan was born in Assiniboia, Sask, and spent her youth in Prince Albert, Sask where she enjoyed figure skating and spending the summers at Waskesiu. She graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Home Economics, and spent several years in social work and teaching before she had her two sons. In 1994, she and John moved from Toronto to White Rock to enjoy their retirement years. While in White Rock, Joan thoroughly enjoyed her book clubs and the friendships and laughs that came from them, as well as the camaraderie of John's Hazelmere golf group who quickly became a close circle of friends. At Joan's request there will be no funeral service. Donations in her memory are encouraged to be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. A special thanks from the family to Dr. C. Giles, Dr. A. Chan, and to the kind and caring nurses and staff at Amica White Rock for their care and support.
