Our family's story in Langley will never be complete without the godly impact of a godly woman, Sis. Margaret, whom we all fondly called Nana. She was an epitome of love and gave and gave of herself over and over again.

Nana was a rare gem, a quiet, humble servant of the Lord. She was a truly inspiring woman of God. Up till few weeks ago, our moms who came to Canada still called and asked how Nana was doing. Even though our mom's had left Langley over 15 years ago, the impact that Nana made on them and the precious memories she shared with our moms still make them call to ask of her until she passed away. We have the same story. Anytime we call folks in Langley, we often ask how Nana is doing. She truly made an indelible mark on all of us.

Indeed, Heaven has gained a soldier of the Cross. Although we mourn her on her passing, Heaven is rejoicing. Nana, thank you for giving to the Lord, we are lives that were impacted and changed to love more and more because of your love.

To Bro. Jim, Sis. Sharon,  Joel and Katelyn, may God be with you and rekindle your hope to see Nana again through godly living.

You've hit the nail on the head by saying "Margaret will always be remembered as one who loved all & was loved by all. If you met her, you loved her and you would be blessed for her acquaintance and she for yours". That's certainly my experience of her, and I miss her already. 
May God comfort your hearts in her loss, and fortify all of our resolves to go to the same place she is now brightening with her presence.

Sis Margaret  never forgot our children's birthdays since they were born. She was at each of their dedication in 2014 and 2016. She would always give them birthday presents - money and card inside an envelope :)-  She knew each of the kids' names. She is so much loved.

'Nana', as we all call her, was such a loving, loving lady.  I met her at church  in 2015 when I first came to Canada to visit my grandchildren. Since then, Nana will always call me by my first name, 'Abigail'.   This picture was the taken in December of 2018. 

We love you Nana, but God love you the most. Rest on, till we meet again.

When we heard of Nana’s passing, I knew heaven had gained a jewel for such was this remarkable woman of God.  Nana was a shining example of faithfulness and loyalty in the service of God. She was indeed a prayer warrior and that duty she discharged to the end

I remember visiting Nana a while back and she quietly offered me a beautiful drawer dresser that she had and without a thought she gave it to us.This beautiful dresser has been in our home ever since and a constant reminder of Nana’s selfless love.  I cannot forget the beautiful birthday cards enclosed with money for Immanuel each birthday.

I will miss the genuine love that shone through Nana’s beautiful eyes. Seeing her in church on Sundays even though frail was such an encouragement. I remember the first time Bro Jim brought her to church after we resumed in person service and she insisted on hugging Immanuel even though we were trying to keep her safe, but it didn’t matter to her, she was so happy just to be at church and each time I asked how she was doing, her answered was “I don’t have an ache or a pain” to which I’d reply God is good. 

We are saddened that you are no more here, but you will always live in our hearts.

Our very first memory of Langley involves our dear sweet Nana and occurred before we even set foot in this beautiful part of BC.  Before setting out to travel from Newfoundland to BC for our first pastorate, our children were only 7, 4, 2  and 4 months old yet Nana made sure to let us know that she was praying for us and had all our names memorized without ever meeting us.  That was the epitome of her character, a praying, godly woman of faith.

Upon arriving at the parsonage, Nana was among the first to visit us to say "HI" and give us a warm welcome.  Through the years she had become for us such a cherished friend and sister in the Lord.

It was what people would call "the little things" that Nana did well and what remains a delightful memory for our family.  The birthday cards and money she would give to our kids as if they were her own grandchildren.  The money she would slip in our hands at every potluck saying she wants to help with the cost for the church.  The Nanaimo bars she loved to bring because she loved them and knew that I loved them.

I remember two phrases the most.  One, "I don't have an ache or a pain" as she would talk of the strength and health of life God granted her.  Two, "I've got all the time in the world to pray".  Many times she would state this.  In our telephone conversations she'd ask how specific one's on her prayer list were doing.  She not only prayed, she genuinely cared and believe God would answer.

I still picture in my minds eye as I look over the congregation Nana singing, clapping her hands with a cheerful countenance as she rejoiced in the Lord.  Her "favorite day of the week" as she'd always say.  That it was.  Her favorite day and our favorite day for we got to share it with her worshipping the Lord who had set us both free by the washing of His precious Blood.

We continue to hold Jim, Sharon, Katelyn, Joel and the extended family in our prayers.  May God comfort each one.  Nana now is resting in the arms of Jesus!

Can’t forget Nana”s blue eyes  filled with much love and kindness , always carrying a gentle smile, this way Nana has welcomed us  with such a warmth  personality that couldn’t be missed.  Nana was so humble and selfless, would give away in a blink a thing if she knew  you need it more then herself. In our first months of  living in Canada, when we were  quite challenged by the new beginning, one day Nana came to me and offered her cellphone with the number saying:” for now you need this more than I” and there was no way I could say no.  More then anything I know Nana as one of the most fearless prayer warrior, always carrying the prayer booklet and the pen, always wearing purple outfits and asking around  for reasons of prayer, saying: “I have plenty of time to pray.” And she did pray, as her prayers  were answered, are answered and I know she has filled the Heaven with her prayers that will continue to be answered in the generations to come. 
Nana a truly inspiration for us. We love you Nana  and when we’ll meet you again,  will be for the everlasting life in the presence of our King. 


When I think of Nana, I smile. Anyone blessed enough to have known her, whether 10 minutes or 10 years, would say the same thing: how sweet she was.
My fondest memories of our times together was getting Tim Hortons Ice Capp (her very favourite!) and a wrap and going to Sendall Gardens after church to sit and enjoy the nature.  When she couldn’t manage that, I’d bring her an Ice Capp  and visit at her home. When my boys  were born she knit them  sweet little jackets, hats and booties and I still have them, packaged and ready for a grand baby one day.. Nana thank you for you testimony and love- I’ll miss you dearly.

My own memory of dear Sis. Margaret along with these beautiful tributes remind me of what true riches are in this life.  Sis Margaret's gentle ways and steadfast faith as evidenced by her unfailing prayer life for all will always encourage and inspire me.   She loved many and gave much as a child of God.  I am so glad to have known this godly sweet salt-of-earth lady.  I only hope to live my life as faithfully to the end as she did.  Thank you, Lord, for this precious life, that you allowed me to have known.

To Jim, Sharon and families of the late Margaret Sutherland:

We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to you during this time of sorrow. In spite of the grief we feel, it is with great joy that we can give this dear sister in the Lord a great send off to her heavenly reward. She has lived her life in preparation for this moment when her time down here would be complete. With a blessed assurance she anticipated going to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

My wife and I had the wonderful privilege to meet this amazing sister in the Lord the very first time we visited the Langley church. Her bright smile and loving personality was the same each time we visited thereafter. Because of her relationship with Jesus, she could share that heavenly love and joy with others.

Her faithfulness to God and the Apostolic Faith Church all these years will long be remembered and missed. We thank God for her commitment.
May the Lord bless you all as you lay your mother, mother-in-law, grandmother to rest. I know you will miss her greatly. We pray that the Lord will comfort your hearts and bring sweet peace to you.

Revelation 21:3, 4 says "And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."

It is wonderful to know there is another meeting place where we shall all meet to part no more. God bless.

Adieu to a Remarkable Woman.

You were the true definition of the right hand not knowing how much the left hand was giving. When as a young bride, I walked into a fully furnished apartment in spite of the fact that my husband just started working a few months before my arrival, I learnt that you were downsizing and moving to the mainland from the Island and so were the recipients of your furniture, mattress, sheets, kitchenware,  the whole works.  
 
When I arrived in March 1989, the highlight of my week was coming over to your house once a week to learn how to knit.  You knitted sweaters for me and my expectant baby in pink and blue, there were no reveal parties then. 

When one after the other, the boys came, you were part of their lives to the very end. Generous and kind. Sunday evening trips to Wendy's were something we all looked forward to. Till today I still like having the occasional Wendy's frosty. You introduced me to it!  Birthday money was a constant. You were very funny, and one was never bored in your presence. 

The Ajayi family will miss our dear Nana. You were the sweet old woman I hope I can be someday, gracious and easy going but with a quiet strength. Yours was not the life of the famous, but of a woman who quietly but profoundly touched many lives. 
See you on the resurrection day, dear Nana.




What a devoted and faithful lady our dear friend was. Her beautiful smile would just light up a room and lift your spirits. She was “ Nana” to those who knew and loved her. The most selfless person I have ever known. Always so willing to help or pray for all. She never failed to fulfill a request for prayer.

We will miss her so very much here on earth . But heaven is happy to welcome her home I know. May she rest now,free of earthly pain and in the comfort of her precious Lords arms. 



Sister Margareth Sutherland was a holy woman of God whose life exemplified faith, hope, and charity unfeigned. She was an embodiment of what a virtuous woman should be.
Since 2002 when we relocated to Canada, sister Margareth always showed deep interest in our three boys. Our children were always looking forward to the next church service to see their grandma. During winter, she would knit wool toques for them and send birthday cards with her cursive handwriting enclosed with cash every year. Sister Margareth’s uncommon kindness, generosity, and compassion to my family will never be forgotten, she will always hold a special place in our hearts. 
One of the most endearing personality traits of sister Margareth was her prayer life. She truly followed the charge to pray without ceasing. It was as normal and essential to her as breathing. She maintained a prayer journal with list of names and prayer requests. A prayer warrior indeed!
We thank God for her exemplary Christian life and years of unwavering and selfless dedication to the cause of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
We offer our heart-felt condolences  and assurance of our prayers to brother Jim and sister Sharon, and their children, Joel & Katelyn: “Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.” (II Thessalonians 2:16-17) – Samuel & Foluke Adenekan.



I was so blessed to have known this beautiful soul, and spend every Friday taking her to her hair appointments and shopping, finishing with lunch and a visit at her apartment. Her smile lit up the room, she prayed for anyone who asked, and kept praying for them until she knew that prayer was answered. 

Each time I left after our visits, she would always say the quote she loved by Tennessee Ernie Ford... "Bless your pea-pickin' heart". I love you Nana, and I'll miss you, but I'll see you one day in Heaven.

Our letter of love to Dear Sweet Nana,  

What a precious, precious saint.  “How Can We Say Thanks”…..for all the special times we shared together!

You were so cheerful and appreciative of any little thing that we did.  You were SUCH an ENCOURAGER.  We always left our visits feeling like we had made your day!  

You so willingly and happily looked after our 2 dogs when we needed a pet sitter!  (Even though they scratched the finish off the trim on your door trying their best to escape!)

You found out Bro Chet liked deviled eggs and for many of the potlucks that was what you loved to bring!  But of course it was never enough, you insisted on slipping a little money into our pocket to help with the cost of the food!

You found out we loved milk chocolate….We can’t count the number of boxes of Purdys Chocolates we were treated with on Birthdays, Anniversaries and of course Christmas & Easter!!!

You always kept a small notepad in your purse to write prayer requests.  Your faithfulness in keeping an up-to-date prayer list was so important to you!  Not only were you eager to pray for our loved ones but you would ask how they were doing and if you needed to continue keeping them on your prayer list. 
We remember one time you said, “Sometimes I sit down to pray over my food and get so lost in praying for others that I forget about my lunch!”   You were such  a beautiful example of God’s love to all of us.

OH HOW YOU LOVED YOUR FAMILY!  You were so proud of each one and loved them dearly!  You were so loving and kind when you spoke of them.  

We looked forward to our visits with you Nana because you were such a joy to visit.  We still remember your goodbye’s ….. you would always say “SAFE HOME” and even now we love passing that message on to others, and are quick to tell them, that was what Nana always said to us!

Dear Nana, now your journey is over and you are “Safe Home”!  We will miss you so much but we know Heaven has certainly been made sweeter by your homecoming!
