Marion passed away peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2026, with her son and daughter by her side.
Marion was born in 1942, the youngest of four children in Derry, Northern Ireland. She attended Queen’s University in Belfast, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. There, she met her future husband, Des. After graduating, she moved to London and worked as a career advisor. She and Des got married and emigrated to Canada in 1970, settling in Vancouver.
Two children soon followed – Fiona, then Richard. Marion paused her career to devote her time to her family, which included an assortment of beloved cats and dogs.
As her kids got older, Marion retrained as a Medical Office Assistant and returned to the workforce until her retirement at 65.
Marion enjoyed quiet times at home. She was an avid reader and ensured the local hummingbirds had a steady supply of nectar. She also enjoyed playing Bridge and golfing with her friends and husband. She walked daily and, at 84, could outwalk many decades younger. She had a wonderfully acerbic sense of humour, an encyclopedic knowledge of history and was a selfless and devoted mother. She treasured her friends, many of whom she’d known for many decades.
Marion is survived by her two children, Fiona and Richard and by her daughter-in-law Tulia and her grandchildren Tomás and Emma.
