MESSAGE PART 2a OF 2

Approximately a couple of decades later, I was studying the book of 1 Corinthian, in Chapter 4, verse 15, "[the Apostle Paul said,] for though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel." The LORD touched my heart so profoundly about this truth that I wrote to Miss Beedom and related to her as my mother-in-the-Faith. When she affirmed those precise words, it was as though, The LORD said, "Anthony, behold your mom. Mavis, behold your son. Since that day, I have addressed her as Mom, and she called me Son.

She was always there for me for many of my pain and sorrow, mountain high epics and valley low slumps. She was constantly the daughter of Consolation and full of encouragement from the LORD to me.

Her compassion, generosity, and kindness were much more far-reaching than just with me. I have seen her financially support 10s and perhaps 100s of kids to Bible camps. She had generously supported missionaries and mission groups. She had put through young men and women through Bible college, housed many, furnished many homes, even procured wedding bands for a couple, and so much more. Albeit sometimes her kindness was taken advantage of by others, she was willing if it directed them to Christ.

She was an Evangelist, Giver of givers, Prayer Warrior, led quietly as a servant, sold out to Jesus like no one I have ever seen. But, above all, she was a schoolteacher at heart -- always looking to point young children to Christ. In one of my last in-person conversations with her and Joy, Mom was telling us about classes with which she needed to prepare and her students. Of course, this is nearly three decades after her retirement. 


MESSAGE PART 1 OF 2

Good afternoon family of Mavis, friends of Miss Beedom, and for me, Mom.

Before I explain why I call Miss Beedom, Mom, I like to tell you how we met.

It was the beginning of a new school year in 1984, and I was 11 years of age. Through a series of what I know to be divine providential events, I was accepted into a school in an adjacent catchment where Miss Beedom taught the sixth grade. This is the day Mom asked me to recount many times, especially in her latter days. Even with her diminishing memory, she remembered some details of that fateful day. She often shared that day as one of her most memorable. I often shared that it was the turning point in my life.

You see, in 1984, I had only arrived in Canada from South Asia for about two years. My English was so poor that I couldn't order a meal at McDonald's if my life depended on it, and the LORD laid upon her heart to show compassion on me.

Months later, I started attending the Bible Club she and Rowina Phare hosted. I learned about God's love through Jesus, His Son, from the Bible Club. Then, I went to a Bible camp through her financial sponsorship. The LORD graciously saved me during the Bible camp from her act of kindness and generosity. For my Salvation, I am thankful to Rowina, the Bible camp and its ministry, but in fact, I accepted Jesus as my LORD and Saviour because Miss Beedom lived out Christ in her daily life. I believed because I saw Jesus of the Bible in living colour through her every word and deed.

Soon after, I started going to the same church as her. I wanted to know and love Jesus as she did. So I became a Follower and Disciple of Jesus because of what I saw in her.

As I grew in Christ, I always returned to her spiritual nurture and guidance, and we have grown close. As a result, I can share things that I cannot even share with my maternal mother, for my unbelieving mother could not sympathize with the journey of growing in His grace. Miss Beedom did.


Ms. Beedom was my mother in faith.  She was always so compassionate, patience, and steadfast.  She had such a gentle spirit.  
I was blessed to one of the teenager that she sponsored for Bible Camp.  
She become neighbor when Ioved out on my own.  We had many days of great conversation over tea and snacks.  She become my counselor.  She was there for me thru my tough time.
I miss her dearly.


Ms. Beedom represented everything that is good and pure in this world.  Back in high school (1986-1991), I always thought that everyone that wanted to attend our yearly church camp, could do so without charge. Little did I know, it was because of Ms. Beedom and her generous donations that we were able to do so. Thank you so very.
Ms. Beedom showed so much love to every single soul she encountered and I just hope she also felt the abundant of love we have for her. We love you and miss you tremendously.
I know God is saying ' Hallelujah, you're home'.

Miss Beedom was such an amazing teacher. She made us all feel so special. At Walter Moberly, Miss Beedom was Music Teacher to us all. She lead the Choir and really made us want to sing our hearts out for her. That was back is the early 60s. In later years we reconnected at Grandview Elementary.  Miss Beedom made me want to be a teacher and I always tried to be as kind and gentle as she was. It was a privilege to know her. 

Mavis Beedom was my mother Nelly’s best friend when they were fourteen and in school together and stayed friend’s until my mother’s passing in 2012.  She was always smiling and was always so interested in anything I had to say.  I spent a lot of time with her over the years and I’m sorry to hear of her passing..she was one of a kind, a rare gem of a lady with a heart of gold!  She will be missed 💕❤️

Miss Beedom was my Grade 6 teacher at Carnarvon Elementary. She was a brilliant and dedicated music teacher who wrote her own arrangements for such projects like our production of 'HMS Pinafore.'  She was able to provide music that got the best out of young, untrained singers and musicians, which is a great skill. She was also a gifted math teacher. My condolences to her family. 

I taught with Mavis at Grandview School and was always impressed by her care and concern for her students.  She got a lot of respect from her students because they knew she really wanted the best for them.  She had an awesome choir too.  I used to enjoy talking to her at recess time.  She was very proud of her family and spoke about them often.  I remember how excited she was when the grand niece and nephews came along.

Had such fond memories of Ms. Beedom.  Will always remember her kindness, encouragement and generosity.  Such a sweet dear friend. 

Miss Beedom was my teacher at Grandview elementary for grades 6 and 7.She was an awesome teacher she lived for her students and church a very kind and loving person who will be greatly missed

I will never forget the very first time I walked into Bible club as a 5 year old little girl. I accepted Christ as my Savior and began a wonderful relationship with the most godly lady I have ever met in my life.  Miss Beedom was my elementary school teacher and mentor throughout  my whole life.  I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for her help.  God has used this women to affect many people for Jesus Christ. I truly am privileged to know such a sweet, positive and loving person.  I have kept in contact with her my whole life. She was like my angel. Her love and compassion for others will always be in my heart and I pray I will always serve Christ with my life.  I thank God for her and I can't wait to see her again with my parents in heaven someday! She will always be in my heart. 

Every memory I have of her is her speaking kind words with her soft spoken voice and sweet smile. Her generosity and kindness was well known throughout our church. She loved God and it showed in how she lived her life. I am so privileged to have met such a genuinely kind person. We will miss you Ms. Beedom. 

Ms Beedom was such a blessing to all who knew her.  My wife and I especially remember the trip we were allowed to go on with her and Elaine to Hawaii.  Their love for the Lord and for others, especially preachers was always evident.  They both will be greatly missed by Metro Baptist Church and everyone the touched through their lifetimes.

Joh 12:24  Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. 

Miss Beedom “died to the prospects of marriage” giving herself to be a school teacher for 40 years.  How many children were touched by her life? How many love  music and the arts because of her whole-hearted passion?

Miss Beedom “died to ease” and once a week every week conducted a Bible Club after a long day of teaching.  How many children chose the road to Heaven because of her?

Miss Beedom “died to accumulation of things” instead choosing to finance children to Bible camp and Bible college, support God’s missionaries, and to lavish hospitality upon people at the fanciest restaurants in town.

Miss Beedom “died to her desires and rights” choosing to be a gentle, loving, faithful care-giver to her aging parents and later to her precious sister.  She never complained, she only ever expressed a whole hearted desire to serve.

Miss Beedom “died to the world’s philosophies and praise”. She was a soldier for God and righteousness in the humanistic education system. Her Christian beliefs were not popular but she never lowered the flag.

Miss Beedom “died to judgmental spirit and condescension “ choosing rather to show love and mercy to everyone in her life.  

The beauty of Jesus bore much fruit through the life of Miss Beedom.   Her memory will live on in all who had the privilege to know her.

There are so many memories with this precious lady...her hymn playing & worship as she played the piano...her kindness and constant encouragement to us in the ministry...her love and care for our four children...the many delicious meals out with her...her presence at our Vacation Bible schools...the many life lessons she taught us...We saw Jesus in her words, her actions,  and her spirit! We will forever be grateful for the years that God allowed her to be a part of our lives and church! 

Miss Beedom was a Godly woman and truly generous. I will never forget how God used her as a tool to bless my family when we were new in this country. I will truly miss her!

Such a sweet, godly lady...you will be dearly missed! I know you are rejoicing in Heaven as we speak!
