Van grew up in the Drumheller Valley leaving to join the RCMP in 1952. During his service he did a tour with the “Musical Ride” and took part in a Governor General’s Escort. He enjoyed serving in several small communities in BC. He opened the detachment in Clearwater and also was stationed in Sicamous, Kamloops, Revelstoke, Salmon Arm, Blue River, Kelowna and Kitimat. He married Diana Granberg in 1958 and continued to have a busy life moving frequently, sailing and showing dogs. Van had many sailing vessels but “Starduster”, his 33’ C & C was his pride and joy. In the early 60’s Van began his goal to become an all breed judge, which took him approximately 20 years to obtain. After retiring from the RCMP in 1983, his travels began in earnest judging dogs worldwide. When Sandy came into his life they traveled extensively and enjoyed sailing the Gulf and San Juan Islands with the International Yacht Club. This lifestyle suited Van perfectly as he was always planning his next excursion whether by land, by sea or by air. He reveled in going, seeing and doing and experienced life to the fullest.
Van, you will be greatly missed by all.
