Mike will be remembered fondly by our family. It was a beautiful service today,  To witness the love that everyone shared for Mike, & Vic was a blessing to be a part of. 

May Mike rest peacefully in sweet paradise. The mighty Vedder will always have a special place, I will go there often and speak your name to the fishing gods for abundance to those who were lucky enough to have ever met you in their lives ❤️🫶🫂

I've had the privilege of meeting Mike through the comraderie of Tom and Thanh only a handful of times.  But enough to see what an amazing guy he was. His kindness, charisma, genuiness and infectious laugh easily left a lasting impression. I feel fortunate to have witnessed his strength, faith and tenacity despite facing such excruciating challenges. He's a genuine inspiration.

The unwavering support from his family, especially Vic's constant presence by his side, is a testament of their love and truly humbling.

May you Rest in peace Mike.

I only knew Mike for about 7 years. He was the person who informed me of the passing of my Uncle (John) Sean Laverty. He was very kind and we talked for a few years. We did lose touch over time. I was sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to Maria and his family.

We couldn't visit, but wanted to send Uncle Mike lots of love and when we are lake-side, we will always think of him.

We have known Mike since we landed in Canada in 2002. We first met Vic in 2003, back when their relationship was just starting. We have had a front-row seat to the beautiful love story of Buhbee and Bebi. And, in all of the 24 years that we've known Mike, Vic is the only girl that Mike ever loved...his beloved Victoria, the one great love of his life! I remembered him showing me (here in Canada) the order for 100 white roses  to be delivered to Vic in the Philippines! He would go to such great lengths to make her feel how much he loves her.  And Mike is also the only man that makes Vic the happiest!

We also witnessed their first break-up, and how broken Mike was at that time. We later learned that Vic had it rough, too. But, we were also there when they got back together, and was truly happy for them when they ended up exchanging I dos in the altar, pledging their life and love for eternity.  For the past few years, we saw how Vic stayed by his side, giving up the comfort of Philippine life, and lovingly cared for him through all of his treatments, procedures, hospital admissions. She stayed by his side 24/7, only leaving to go home to shower or do some laundry. In return, albeit we can tell he is in so much pain every time we visit him, Mike persevered, endured, and powered through the excruciating pains and discomfort just so he could spend more time with Vic. When cancer hits the bone, the pain is beyond words. His unwavering faith in God and the will to keep living is truly remarkable and worth emulating. He is truly an inspiration for his tenacity, sheer grit, and desire to live. 

Theirs is truly the epitomé of TRUE LOVE, one that endured and withstood the test of time, trials, and distance!

This photo was taken at a family gathering, which was always full of delicious spread, funny stories, and lots of laughter.  Like Tom, we also get to see Marielle (Vic's bestfriend) on occasions when the family gets together.

This is Mike and Kyla, his goddaughter. Mike was the first to drive us to Seattle, Whistler, Harrison Hot Springs; the first to introduce us to camping and crabbing; the first to bring us to the outlet malls in Washington state; and the first to introduce us to the Canada Day fireworks experience, where this photo was taken. Looking at their genuine, happy smiles brings back so many memories!

Abbey was only 5 years old when she first met Mike. She's now 28. In those 23 years, Mike had been a constant presence in our lives. He taught Abbey how to fish, how to crab, how to make s'mores, start a campfire, how to play SSX Tricky and Wii Sports Resort games. They would play for hours (at times until after midnight) as both were super competitive  battling to have the highest rank. To her, he is the #1 uncle that made her childhood so much fun and exciting. That's why both her and Kyla love Mike immensely and would visit him whenever our schedules aligned.

To show their deep gratitude and love, they invited Mike and Vic to dinner at Cactus Club Cafe Restaurant in April of 2024, saying they can order whatever they want, their treat. We lingered by the parking lot after, reminiscing the good 'ol days and I noticed his eyes glistened. That night, he messaged me at 12:42am saying this: "Time flies. Thank you so much for today. SO MUCH MEMORIES.", followed by a picture he took of our family in 2007.  He said he was up late scrolling thru FB and looking at our escapades over the years. I knew then that he felt how much we love him and how grateful we all are for everything he did for us.

He was so proud when Abbey became an RN, and when Kyla graduated high school with the top award. But, that night I felt he was the proudest. He might not have fathered children of his own, but I know he felt like a proud dad that raised good children that night. As Abbey had put it, "It's Tito Mike!", who to us is like our second  father, and we want him to feel how dearly we love and appreciate him!

Everything we know about crabbing, we learned from Mike. He taught Abbey and Kyla (and us, too) how to hold a crab without getting pinched, how to distinguish male from female, how to measure the acceptable size, what bait works better, and how many we can take home. He had always stressed the importance of following regulations. The best part was coming home and eating freshly-caught boiled crabs paired with buttery, vinegar garlic sauce...so finger-lickin' good!

Mike had introduced us to so many of his friends throughout the years.  This photo was taken in the early 2000s when we went camping with Tom @ Sasquatch Provincial Park.  Tom is Mike's bestfriend for decades now, and is one of his most enduring, supportive, caring, loving, and dependable friends. He is always present at important milestones and family occasions. That's why Mike always talk with fondness and affection when he tells stories and experiences with Tom.

Babet's grandma and Mike's grandpa are siblings, which makes them second cousins. And these two  have spent thousands of hours sharing life stories and experiences. They were smoking buddies and both feed off each other's hilariousness. If they are together, you'll be assured of non-stop laughter and out of this world stories. Those were fun, happy times!

Mike was also a good singer. He loves karaoke and we loved listening to him sing on family gatherings.

Mike became Kyla's godfather in 2004. And he took that role to heart, always visiting her and buying her presents and  stuff. One summer he dropped by our place with a Mongoose bike in tow and took time to teach her how to ride a bike in the cul-de-sac. He was such a loving "ninong" to her!

That big smile you see is from the heart, because Mike is the happiest when he is camping! We have spent many summers camping with him and amassed tons of cherished memories. Cheese smokies (his fave), s'mores, barbecues, beer, and campfire stories abound. We were not rowdy or anything, but since the stories that he and Babet would tell were so hilarious, we would laugh so hard and do these sudden bursts of laughter. As expected, we ofen get warnings from park rangers. The last time we went camping together was in 2021. So much fun!

He shared this photo with me after they've watched a White Caps game and went to No. 9 Restaurant for a sumptuous dinner after. Being the kuya (oldest), I can tell he was so happy that night to have spent time with them. Mike is the glue that bonds the family together!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for all that you have done for our family (The Ladislas), and for all the beautiful and countless memories you've shared with us, Mike. Thank you for helping us adapt and integrate when we first landed in Canada. Thank you for introducing us to camping, and even went as far as gifting us a 10-person tent just so we'll go camping with you. The hilarious stories, s'mores, cheese smokies, beach lounging, and sudden bursts of laughter around the campfire that got us warnings from the park rangers, be it at Sasquatch or Golden Ears Provincial Park, will always be a core memory.

Thank you for teaching us to love the outdoors, crabbing, and road trips, both here in Canada and the US. But most of all, thank you for the fun, the belly-teary laughs, the spontaneous road trip, the family gatherings, wonderful experiences, lasting memories, care, time, and love shared with our family. Thank you for being a #1 uncle to Abbey and Kyla, for playing Wii and Playstation games with them, for teaching them how to fish, how to hold a crab and to distinguish male from female, and for all the things you bought for them over the years. They love and appreciate you immensely.  As I've told you recently, we will be forever grateful. 

You have a good, kind heart, Mike. You are a beautiful soul whose smile and laughter always lit up the space. You help when you can. You work hard. You love life. You bring joy to those around you. And you are an inspiration as to how you've faced cancer head-on and endured everything, no matter how painful, until the very end. 

We love you, Mike. And we will miss visiting you and having you around. We will be there for your beloved Buhbee /Victoria, Kira, Tito Bal, Allan, Lei, Shah and the boys. And we pray that your journey to the heavens will be light and easy.  May you rest peacefully in God's beautiful kingdom now, Mike.  🙏💕

I wanted to share a beautiful memory of Mike that has stayed with me since we first met through my best friend back in 2009 here in Edmonton and he's with Beauty at that time. ​I remember when our paths crossed again in 2011. My family had moved here in 2010, and during a trip to Vancouver, I finally got to introduce them to Mike. I called him up, and he immediately insisted we all come over for dinner. ​When we walked into his home, we were moved by his generosity—he and Tito had prepared a massive dinner. That baked salmon was our absolute favorite. What struck us most was Mike’s contagious smile; even though he didn't know my family well, he had a way of making us feel so deeply welcome and cared for. ​He was a truly special person and has gone too soon. Our hearts go out to San Luis Family during this difficult time.

In August 2024, I had a chance to visit and attend our family reunion. Thanks to our T Selbybanf T Ruth for organising it. I am thankful to God for allowing me to see Mike and spend quality time. We had a blast, Mike is so positive and puts all his trust in God. 
I know God’s purpose of Mike in this earth is finished but I believe Mike’s life has just started. He is now in God’s mansion with no pain but comfort and relaxation. Mike will now be looking after us and guide us through this life.

Great memories from 2018 El Nido trip with Beauty and Chai.

Mike will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His warmth and quiet strength will remain in our hearts forever. We are grateful for the memories we shared and will always remember him with love.

I remember the days when Mike and I would chat at work while he unloaded a delivery, he would always ask how my day was going no matter how busy it got. That’s the kind of friend he was, someone with a huge heart and love for everyone. He will be greatly missed, forever in our hearts.

Very cheering smiling since I knew him . Mike became one of my greatest son , always helped me out whenever I needed in every way out cannot be expressed enough again..... Mike has being really missed from my husband my children and my families from here and abroad ❤️ 💙 ♥️

What can I say Kuya Mike, or as we call him “san lulu”.  We first met when we worked together at ikea.  His infectious laugh knew he was he close by and it was always a pleasure hearing him, chatting and laughing with him.  To hanging out with him other ikea friends and colleagues at no. 9 restaurant in Richmond to bowling at the Excalibur in Surrey,  it was always fun.  To his eternal saying of “t*ng ina” in many different annotations or his old voicemail greeting which just consisted of “4747”., the last four numbers of his then telephone number leaving you thinking who did I just call.  More over 67, the original is the 4747.  One of our friends just to sing to him crater face in the style of moon river. Those were the days.  You will
Be missed greatly by everyone who were lucky enough to call him as your friend.  Rest in peace, may perpetual light shine upon you.

I worked with Mike at IKEA in the early 2000’s. I will remember him for his work ethic and positive attitude that he brought to work each and every day. He was friendly, polite and had a great sense of humour. Mike battled cancer with all he could and still remained dedicated to living a quality life- something that I will always admire. I am saddened by the news of his passing and my heart goes out to his family and friends.
