Olusola James Ogunniyi

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Olusola James Ogunniyi, who left us peacefully on October 30, 2025 at the age of 65, surrounded by family and love.

Born on August 30, 1960 in Odo Eku, Dad lived a life that was full, generous, and deeply meaningful. He was more than a father, he was our greatest teacher, especially when it came to Nigerian history, the epitome of a hard worker, and a selfless individual.

James had a way of making everyone around him feel seen and valued. Whether it was through his steady advice, his gentle humor, or the warmth of his smile, he gave selflessly and loved without limits. He worked hard to provide for those he cherished and built a life rooted in, faith, and kindness.

He was a man of simple joys — a drive around the city because he enjoyed driving, listening to good music (Sunny Ade, Fela etc), a plate of yam (His favourite), and having meaningful conversations with those around him. To those who knew him, he was dependable, humble, and always there when you needed him most.

James is survived by his loving wife, Janet Adenike, his children; Oluwapelumi, Oluwafunmilayo, and Oluwabukunmi; his grandson; Jordan Elijah; his siblings, Prof Titus, and Funke; all of whom will carry his love and lessons in their hearts forever. He was preceded in death by his parents Pa John & Elizabeth; and his siblings; Mary, and Funmilayo

A family visitation/ final viewing will be held on November 12th at 3pm Vancouver time. A link to view this will be provided to family ahead of time. The burial will be held on November 13th at 11am at Sunnyside Lawn Cemetery Surrey;

Though he is no longer here with us, Dad’s love remains in the way we live, the values we hold, and the memories that bring both comfort and tears. His legacy will forever be our greatest inheritance.
