Andy was born in Vancouver, BC, where he attended Tecumseh Elementary and John Oliver High school. He excelled in sports his whole life with a passion for golf. A devoted Montreal Canadien’s fan, Andy never missed Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday nights, first on the radio, then on TV. He worked at a number of jobs, including being a Shop Steward at 19 years old for MacMillan Bloedel-Canadian White Pine. When Andy met Norma (a teacher), he was inspired to further his post-secondary education. He took courses and became a TV technician.
Andy and Norma were married in the spring of ’56, and were later blessed with four wonderful children. In April of ’57, Andy joined Canada Post Office, where he devoted 32 years of his life and became a business agent for the Letter Carriers Union of Canada. He was a staunch believer in the rights of the workers and despite many setbacks and opposition; he never gave up and was an influential activist in the labour movement. As the president of the LCUC, Andy got to travel across Canada to conventions and he was frequently attended and always strongly supported by Norma.
Even though he spent so much time traveling for work, he still managed to devote time to support his kids and their sports, either by coaching or cheering them on at games and events. At home, Andy played a mean harmonica (self-taught) and enjoyed many a soulful tune with family and friends. Andy will always be remembered for including people and making them laugh. He was a supportive and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a devoted husband. He will be dearly missed and loved forever by family and friends.
