It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Bob Davies on December 24, 2014, age 88. Dad was born in Ontario but spent most of his life in beautiful B.C. where he first met and fell in love with his dear wife, Irene. They were married on November 26, 1948 and lived in Vancouver, then Richmond and later White Rock/South Surrey.
He is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Pearl and his sister, Elizabeth. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Irene, his son Bob (Lorraine) and his daughter Cathy (Gary). Dad will live on in the special memories of his friends and family, his 4 treasured grandchildren, Ron, James, Michael and Rebecca, and his great-grandaughter, Jorja. He was a wonderful, kind-hearted man who deeply loved spending time with his family and particularly his grandchildren. Dad and mom happily attended hockey games, concerts, ball games, family gatherings and any other events that featured one of their grandchildren. They could always be seen in the stands, supporting and cheering them on, and they were very proud of all their accomplishments.
Dad joined the Vancouver Police Dept in 1948 and retired after 37 years. He was a founding member of the Motorcycle Drill Team and spent most of his career in the Traffic Dept. Dad loved his job. He was a well-respected leader who established long lasting friendships with his fellow police officers. Thank you to all the active and retired VPD members who have e-mailed or called with condolences and stories about dad. Your messages have been greatly appreciated by the family.
After retiring, dad and mom enjoyed travelling in their motorhome with a group of long time good friends, and they also shared many trips to Palm Springs where they golfed and played Canasta with Olive and Bill. While at home they always looked forward to playing cards with the “gang.” Dad was a member at Quilchena Golf Course and spent many hours on the links there, but his first love was always joining in family activities and celebrations. In later years dad became the caregiver for his lovely wife, Irene, who was diagnosed with Alzheimers. Unfortunately, dad’s own health continued to decline and during the 3 months before he passed, he was in and out of Peace Arch Hospital.
We would like to thank Dr. Bryan Prentice, for his friendship, devotion and special care of dad throughout the years. Many thanks as well to all the doctors and nurses at PAH.
No service by request. An intimate family gathering will occur at a later date.
In memory of Bob, donations can be made to the Alzheimers Society of Canada.
