It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ronald Herbert Parkes on August 21, 2026.
Ron leaves behind his beloved wife, Muriel, with whom he shared 56 wonderful years of marriage, his children and grandchildren: Pam, Scott, Russ, Lindsay, Ethan, Gavin, Ella, and Travis, his siblings, nieces and nephews and many friends.
Ron was someone you could always count on. An honourable and dependable man, Ron was deeply involved in the lives of those he loved. He could be found attending his grandchildren’s activities, cheering them on, and supporting his family in any way he could. He loved people and genuinely enjoyed talking with others, sharing his knowledge, lending a helping hand, and making connections wherever he went.
He had a wonderful sense of humour and an unmistakable intelligence, but perhaps most of all, he had a deep love for life. He loved golf and treasured the time spent on the course with his lifelong friends and family members. Fittingly, just one week before his passing, Ron played one of his best rounds of golf—a wonderful final memory of something he loved so much.
Before retiring, Ron devoted 35 years to the school district, where he worked as an elementary school teacher and principal. He made a lasting difference in the lives of the many students, families, and colleagues he worked with throughout his career.
Ron will be deeply missed by Muriel, his family, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched. His kindness, humour, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to his family will remain with us always.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada in Ron’s memory.
