Surrounded by her family she left us peacefully on October 24th, at the age of 96 years.
Over her long life, Mom was a tower of bravery and strength for her family. Arriving in Canada as a young woman, mom created a full and happy life and family. Settling in Kamloops with her husband, Get Yen Chow, mom worked hard and soon became a vital part of the Chinese community there. As a young mother of five, she and her husband owned and ran the “Bamboo Inn” restaurant. Eventually, when her husband passed away, she owned a small grocery store, “Rose’s Food Basket”, where her children worked and played alongside her. Several years later she married Wing Locke and her sixth child was born.
Widowed twice, she showed her children resilience and courage, always teaching them the importance of getting an education, because "nobody can take that away from you".
As the family grew, mom discovered the joy of grandchildren! She was happiest when spending time with her family and each new addition was welcomed with joy. When Wing Locke passed away mom made the decision to move to Surrey in order to be closer to her family.
Rose was predeceased by her first husband, Get Yen Chow, and her second, Wing Pak Locke. Left to mourn her passing are her children Jessie Wong, Mayling Chow (Bob Gough), Cheryl Gavin, Raymond Chow (Teresa), Norman Chow (Rowena) and Donald Locke (Carrie). Also, 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, as well as multiple step grandchildren. All of these loved and will miss their Mama, Poh Poh, Tai Ma and Tai Poh.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 5, 2025, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm at First Memorial Funeral Services Fraser Heights Chapel at 14835 Fraser Highway, Surrey.
