Always Remembered

With heavy hearts, the family wishes to announce the passing of Roy Robert Kingsmith. Roy passed peacefully on June 25, 2026, at the age of 73, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with ALS.

Roy was born to Edward and Helen Kingsmith on February 11, 1953 and raised in Bowness, Calgary, Alberta. He was the youngest of three children, sister Gaye, and brother Keith (deceased). Growing up, Roy loved all sports, but his true passion was skiing. He was a member of the Canadian National Ski patrol and spent hundreds of days on the slopes with friends and family. Roy celebrated his 70th birthday by skiing Mt. Baker, Washington.

In 1981, Roy met Belinda, the love of his life. They married in June 1983 and enjoyed 45 wonderful years together. They were blessed with two children, Adam Taylor, born in 1989, and Alexa Paige (Alexander), born in 1992. Roy's passion for travel was ignited backpacking across Europe in 1972. Roy and Belinda spent many years travelling the world together and have visited over 70 countries. They moved from Calgary to the West Coast in 1999, settling in South Surrey, British Columbia, a stone’s throw away from the Pacific Ocean. Across these adventures, Roy and Belinda met new and interesting people, and forged lifelong friendships.

Roy's entrepreneurial spirit took him in many exciting directions. He studied business at the University of Calgary and worked at Safeway in numerous management roles for over 17 years. He was Business Development Manager for Pepsi Cola, Director of Marketing for Yves Veggie Cuisine, Director of Marketing and Distribution for Autotrader, and ended his career as Provincial Manager of Staples Copy, Print, and Technical Services. Roy and Belinda also founded Interspec Marketing in 1995, offering sales, marketing and distribution expertise in the Western Canadian retail market. His business adventures took him across continents, from negotiating in South America to sourcing products in East Asia, work he approached with relentless curiosity and integrity.

Roy believed deeply in community. In Calgary, he was active in Grace Presbyterian Church, Scouts Canada, and the Willow Park Community association. Upon moving to South Surrey, Roy resumed his volunteer activities, serving on the board of directors of the South Surrey Lacrosse association, as an assistant lacrosse coach, and as a coach of elite soccer. In retirement, he served as president of his Strata council for 8 years, the quintessential "fixer", always working behind the scenes on practical solutions for his neighbours. Roy and Belinda also spent many peaceful days on the links together, enjoying the camaraderie of the game.

More than anything, Roy was a loving father, devoted husband, and a steadfast problem-solver. He had a playful sense of humour, a never-ending love for salty peanuts, and was rarely found without a guitar nearby, ready to strum a tune. He will be profoundly missed for his wisdom, his steady presence, and his easy laughter.

A celebration of Roy's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the ALS Society of Canada.

We hope you are singing your favourite Eagles song, strumming your guitar, and finding your "Peaceful Easy Feeling." Your melody remains with us all.
