Sheila was much loved by her family and will be deeply missed. She was our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and Aunt. She was most happy to be called Nana.
Born and raised in Ottawa, Sheila moved to Winnipeg and then to Delta, where she became a proud British Columbian for the last 46 years. Working for the federal government in income tax gave her the security to move west as a single mother, with three of her four children. Strong willed, intelligent, witty and smart. She didn’t want to go to the party, but once she was there, she loved the conversations with everyone.
Sheila is survived by her sons Bob (Lauree), and Steve (Tracey), daughters Debbie (Tim), and Judy (Sean). Always proud of her grand children, Bena, Tessa, Ella, Rylee, Parker, Paisley, Bobby, Chelsea, and Berkley, and her five great grandchildren, Will, Tommy, Charlie, Luke and Effie. Sheila was happy to have reconnected with Shirley these past few years as well.
Living with her daughter Debbie, she had the best of both worlds: independence, yet always close to and an essential part of the family. Bobby, Chelsea and Berkley learned so much from Nana.
Sheila was a news junkie, following Canadian politics and became a founding member of the Reform Party in the late 1980s and then the Conservative Party, adoring Stephen Harper.
Her love for sports was a lifelong interest. Canadian football, tennis and curling, and especially hockey. A follower of the Canucks and the Canadian teams in the NHL, a highlight was meeting and having her picture taken with Carey Price. She carried that photo in her purse and would showed it to anyone who would listen.
In retirement, Sheila spent many hours quilting. Her artistic flare with full sized quilts has been shared to many who received the quilts she made and gave to them. Smaller quilts of hearts and birdhouses for little girls dolls were a favourite for her to sew.
We are so thankful that Sheila was able to be at home with her family, especially these past few weeks. The Fraser Health Palliative Care team cannot be thanked enough for their support and compassion, to Sheila and the family. Thank you to Barbara for her patience and guidance.
