I have known Tenny and Terry since I was a elementary school. Tenny has been best my best friend forever. We did
everything together. His mom Blackie took care of me when my parents where away. His boys grew up with my
boys. We are tight. My name is Dean Connie and I'm honored to share with you today some special thoughts and
stories about Tyler's life.
Blackie, Tyler's Grandmother shared some wonderful stories with me. I would like to share a few of them with you that
exemplify Tyler's exceptional fun loving, caring attitude, sensitive nature and wicked sense of humor.
Tenny could hardly wait to call his mom to give herthe exciting news on conception of their first child. (Back then we
had to wait several months to confirm a pregnancy) It was tough keeping a secret. Once it was finally confirmed Tenny
called his mom to let her know she was going to be a Grandma. Tenny and Terry said you could hear the screams of
joy from Kelowna all the way to North Vancouver.....Tyler - your Grandma truly loved you from the announcement of
your conception.
Toonie
Do you remember when the Toonie coin first came out? What a novelty it was to get one! Tyler was about four and he
had just found one of the bright shiny new coins. He was so excited about it! Grandma was coming outto visit him
later that day and he could hardly wait. When he heard the door open at the cottage, he came running downstairs with
big wide open eyes and a smile on his face. “Hey Grandma look what I have found for you” and gave her this shiny
new Toonie. Wow Grandma exclaimed “you sure are generous; I thought you might have gone to the candy store with
that.”
If you go over to Blackie's home today you can findthat same coin framed and hung on her wall.
Tyler's generous spirit was evident at a very youngage.
Waterside
A few years later at about 6 years old Tyler and his Grandma spent the day at the watersides. Of course Grandma will
tell you Tyler had to go up and down every slide atleast a hundred times. It was a great day! Tyler later fell asleep on
the couch at Grandma’s house not even making it to bed. He woke up just long enough to look over top of the couch
back at Grandmas to say "I love you Grandma ".
You could also find his sensitive nature when he was around the family dog "Tippy".
He loved Tippy As much as he would tease Tippy, there was a genuine sense of caring and compassion. For those of
you who have been to Tyler’s Face book page you will see one of his “likes” was “petting Tippy all day ”!
Tyler had great compassion for children. You could see his eyes light up and smile from ear to ear when given the
chance to hold a baby or play with one of his little niece’s.
Tyler also loved his brother Brody. There was the fair share of rough housing and teasing, but you always knew that
Tyler would be there for his kid brother, regardless of the circumstances. Brody, Tyler loved you dearly.
Beanie Babies
Tyler definitely got his entrepreneurial sprit fromhis Dad, that’s for sure! Around eight years old Tyler had started a
collection of Beanie Babies. It was the big rage and all the kids had them. Hey Grandma he would say, you know this
Beanie Baby we bought last year for $20 ...it's nowselling for $60.....and see this one Grandma it's if we would have
bought this one its has just sold for $120! Grandma was impressed.... So impressed she went out and bought $2000
dollars worth of the Beanie Babies, which she stillhas.. I’m not going to tell you what they are worth today. But what I
am going to tell you is that Blackie advised she isgoing to put a memorial tag on each one “In Memoryof Tyler Berg”
and donate them all to the Children's hospital. Blackie that is Priceless!
10 years old Speeding ticket story
Have you ever gone to ICBC to get your license renewed and you have been rejected because you had to pay off a
previous fine? Well imagine Tyler's surprise when he went in to get his first drivers license at 16 years old and he is
refused due to a speeding ticket he got when he was10 years old!
Yes, one day at the cottage Tyler took the motocross bike over to the campground in the offseason as it had a much
wider and longer road to ride on. Well wouldn’t youknow, he got pulled over for speeding and the police brought him
back home with a ticket
.
This was the start of his motocross adventures in Tulameen
There were many fun filled years at the family cabin in Tulameen. Tyler would spend hours on a snowmobile or out on
the lake pulling his friends around on a tube. Manya night was spent around the camp fire with friends and family.
Tyler was there when called upon to help split the many cords of wood that the family would go through. Not many will
forget the one night at Tulameen Days when he decided to join the crowd and run “buck naked” down Tulameen hill,
rolling and tumbling down the last few feet after getting tripped up.
We would like to have a few of Tyler’s friends at the lake share some of their thoughts with us…
Speaker: Megan Trafananko Joined by: Amanda, Michelle, Kerry, Kelly and Jessie (girls Ty grew up with from the
lake)
We would first like to thank everyone for coming today. My name is Meghan, this is Kelly, Kerry, Amanda, Jessica, and
Michelle and we grew up with Tyler at our cabin in Tulameen. For most of us, we have known Tyler for 20 years and he
is part of our family. We had a very close relationship with everyone up at the cabin. All of us kids were inseparable
growing up and very much a family. We lived at eachother’s cabins and grew up having five moms.
We would like to take a few moments to share with you some of our favorite memories with Tyler and theimpression
he has left on us.
If Tyler wasn’t picking on Brody, something wasn’t right. When we were little, Tyler got Brody to dress up in his
snowmobile helmet and snow suit in the middle of summer. He then had him run around in the forest and Tyler would
stand there and shoot him with a bee-bee gun. Thereis still a bullet hole through his window.
Tyler was a bit of a daredevil but more than anything, he was obedient. He would ride his dirt bike onthe road and his
dad would always warn him not to get caught. One day, sure enough, he ran into the cops, and took his dads advice.
Eventually, after the police chased him for a while, he lost them. Next thing we know, the police showup on the beach
looking for Tyler. When they asked him if he was Ty ler, he denied the whole thing.
Tyler was a ladies’ man and he knew it too! I thinkit is safe to say that every girl up there had a crush on him at one
point. Everyone loved him from afar but when he gotclose, we all got nervous. When we were little, we had a salon in
our basement at the cabin that we called Faye & Smith Salons. One day he came down into the salon wanting a back
massage. Amanda and I looked at each other and refused to do it but our younger sisters jumped at the opportunity to
massage Tyler’s back while he laid there.
We have a lot of great memories at the cabin. We would all go beer fishing in the ditch and wait for cars to stop before
we yanked the rope with the beer attached. Easter was one of our favorite times of the year. We wouldhave a huge
Easter egg hunt in the forest and our moms would always make Tyler special chocolate because he was allergic to
peanuts. We would find the chocolate and get so madat Tyler because every time we found it, our moms would say
“no you have to put that back, that one’s Tyler’s.”He always got so much more than us.
There was one time that I was so mad at Tyler, him and I were exactly 2 months apart. One winter, all of the guys went
on a night ride on the snowmobiles. I asked the dads if I could go and they said no, that it was only for the boys. At that
age, I didn’t understand why Tyler got to go when we were the same age. That night, I was happy to hear that Tyler ran
the snowmobile off the side of the mountain.
There was one time where Tyler offered to pay me towash his dirt bike. I may have accidently put the hose up the
exhaust pipe and flooded the dirt bike. The bike was squeaky clean but Tyler was not too impressed. Evidently, I am
still waiting on my $20.
Us, girls would have sleepovers at Kelly and Jessica’s. Tyler’s family shared the cabin with their family and we
remember being in Kelly and Jess’s room with our ears up against the wall just so we could spy on Tyler and hear
what the boys were talking about.
Tyler has always been a momma’s boy. He had always been Terry’s pride and joy. Sorry Brody. She alwaysmade a
point to tell us how good looking Tyler was. From day one, Terry would specifically say “none of you girls are good
enough for my Tyler, except for maybe Meghan.” In those words too! He always had such a great sense ofhumor. He
would always keep us amused. He once threw balloonsfull of mustard at cars until someone actually stopped and
made him wash their car.
These are just a few of the stories that have made a lasting impression on our childhood. Tyler has been such a huge
part of our life growing up and it breaks our heartto know that one of our family members is no longer with us. That
being said, we move forward with nothing but good memories of Tyler. What they say is true. The good die young.
Rest in Peace Tyler, we miss you already.

“Beer Hunting"
I also have fond memories of going to the Berg's cottage out at Otter Lake. My boys could hardly wait to meet up with
Tyler and Brodie as Tenny would let all the boys ride mini bikes or drive snowmobiles, around and around the house.
One particular summer afternoon we had not heard the revving of the mini bike for some time. It seemedjust too quiet
for 5 boys, so I went out to investigate. There at the side of the house along the driveway hiding behind the cars were
all the boys with big smiles on their faces. Tyler had a fishing rod in his hand and in a hushed voicesaid "Hey Dean
come over here and watch this”. Tyler was teaching the boys how to beer fish. They had retrieved some empty beer
cans and placed them back on the plastic holder. This 6 pack of bait was strategically placed on the side of the road, I
couldn't believe it but the first car that came by,stopped, backed up then opened the door to pick upthe bait. Tyler set
the hook and reeled in the cans, just as the hand reached out for them. We all roared with laughter. The embarrassed
driver looked up and said " well I lost a 6 pack around here last week. " before he closed the door and drove off.
Tyler's always had a way to make us laugh. As you all know, he had a great sense of humor to match hisbig smile.

Tyler had a great passion for sports, all sports. Lacrosse, Motocross, Skeet-shooting, and his favorite Football. Tyler
wanted to be the best at them all.
He rode Motocross with confidence, without fear. Wewould like to share a few stories from Earl Berg Tyler's uncle. I'm
paraphrasing here..
My memories of Tyler also come back to a few special times when we were doing something active, biking, white
water rafting, shooting skeet, and watching him eat!
Tyler was always up for a good long dirt bike ride through the back country. He was ready to take on any challenge I
could throw at him, ruts, mud, hills.. steep hills, crossing creeks and rivers. Tyler took on the terrain like a seasoned
pro, never complaining and always ready for more. One day we rode nearly 100 kms through some areas that were
pretty wet. At one point of no return we had to cross a creek that was nearly waist deep, he went first, not knowing how
deep the water was going to be but he soon did. He gassed it, threw up his legs and made it to the other side and then
watched me, the pro, drown my bike and nearly drownmyself in the creek. Tyler took to cross country riding like he
had done it for years, no fear, always with a big grin when he took off his helmet.
Riding a dirt bike wasn't new to Tyler, I recall him setting up the jumps in the yard at Otter Lake, Tyler could launch a
50cc Honda mini bike off a ramp like nobody else.
White-water rafting wasn't much different, Tyler like to take the thrill seat in the front and the daywe rafted down the
Thompson he got a bigger thrill than the rest of us. The pilot of the paddle raft took us in close to the river bank beside
a rock over-hang, where there was a huge boulder under the river that created a monster wave. The ideawas, that if
we could get into position, the raft would get caught up in the back draft and "surf" the wave. We gotinto position and
the raft started bucking like a bronco and everyonegrabbed on to anything that would keep them in their seat, in
Tyler’s' thrill seat he didn't have a chance. When the raft broke away from the wave, everyone else looked around and
were shocked that Tyler wasn't there anymore. We all looked around for what seemed and eternity, but no Tyler, not in
the raft, not beside the raft, gone .......... then out of the water 40 feet down stream out popped Tyler, barely
surfacing we heard a loud HOLLY SHIT" as he continued to be carried on downstream in the rapids. We paddled like
hell and pulled him back on board. His biggest concern at the moment was that his shoe, a Croc was still sailing away
downstream and Tyler quickly moved any attention from him, to saving the shoe. We got the shoe, to Tyler that was
the adventure, not him nearly drowning in the undertow of the Thompson.
One on things we all remember of Tyler in our outings was how this kid could eat, not just eat lots, but eat fast! Tyler
could consume a foot long sub like a pencil being ground by an high powered electric pencil sharpener. When we
stopped for Subway we would all sit around and watch, for entertainment, then eat ours. I would even offer to buy him
more, just so I could watch him eat. If there was a minute to win-it contest eating subs, Tyler wouldhad a better
chance to hit the Million Dollar prize better than anyone I have ever met. Tyler knew how to put away a footlong! Thanks for the great stories Uncle Earl.

Tyler was an avid sports fan and especially loved football. Tyler started playing football at age 6, playing in the flag
football league with Cloverdale Minor Football. Even at an early age he showed his competitiveness andhad a
"winning isn't everything, it's the only thing" attitude. After games while other kids were off to geta bag of chips and a
pop, it was Tyler and a select few that stayed on the field practicing until they turned out the lights.
Tyler continued playing football through his entireschool years, in both the Community League as wellas High School.
His passion for the game and the team was evident the day he was discharged from Royal Columbian Hospital after
major surgery and a 10 day stay and insisted that he go right from the hospital to the football field to see his team, the
Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers play ... he couldn't wait to get "back at it". Many of his team mates are here today.
Tyler had his fair share of game and season MVP's but the one he was most proud of was being awarded the "Most
Inspirational" player of the year ... that spoke volumes of his Character.

I met Tyler in grade 8 at Frank Hurt secondary. Along with my friends here today we were all fresh outof
elementary and in high school meeting new people. Within the first few weeks of high school, we had all heard of Tyler
Berg. He was the funniest guy in our class and was the one that was always laughing and making people laugh. That
was what he did day in and day out.
I would like to share a story about Tyler
During our basketball tryouts the coach had pulled me to the side and said to me “Gary I know you’re the
captain and I want you to let me know what you think about your friend Tyler I am still on the fence about cutting him
off the team or keeping him” I said to coach that regardless of what he thinks of Tyler’s basketball skill level he is an
amazing influence and will be good for the team. Aspractice went on I had mentioned to Tyler that coach is still
hesitant and that if Tyler could give it one final push at practice he should be able to make the team. Tyler was very
clever, was very resourceful. Tyler for some reasonknew his skill alone might not be enough to securea position on
the team so he acted!! Tyler then took me to the change room, handed me a Sharpie Pen and asked me to write
“Thug Life” on his stomach like the famous rapper 2pac. Once practice was winding down, Tyler made his last shot at
the end of the practice and lifted his jersey, madeeye contact with Coach and screamed “THUG LIFE”!!!Coach told
him just that alone is why he made the team!!
As the years went on we grew closer as friends and played sports together and shared countless memories. Tyler had
left to play football in Cloverdale and even thoughwe graduated different high schools we managed to keep in touch
and still be the best of friends and I want to thank him for being a part of my life and want to thankhim for everything
he did for me and my friends
Tyler was always gracious and would invite a few ofhis Frank Hurt friends over for thanksgiving dinner. He was a
friend that you could call at any time of day or night and he would do the best to help you out. What I want to say is
that, Tyler Berg was an amazing person that would have done anything for his friends. If you showed him loyalty and
respect, he would return it with 10x the power.
I want to thank the family Tenny, Terry and Brody and Tippy for always showing us love and taking careof us, and
always keeping an eye out for us as if we were their own
Tyler would want us to embrace all the fun times wehad and all the memories we shared and enjoy life.
What I am beginning to understand is that my comfort is in knowing that he is in a better place up there. I will see him
again and we will share laughs again.
We lose people, but we don’t forget them. And it’s the memories that you shared that give us the strength to go on.
Thank you Tyler
Speaker: Dean Connie
Tenny remembers the many Monday nights they would get together watching Monday Night Football. Tyler’sfavorite
team was the Dallas Cowboys. In Tyler's kooky senseof humor, after one lack luster season, Tyler tookout his Dallas
quarterback’s jersey, Tony Romo, and replaced the "R" in Romo with the letter "H" with masking tape toshow his
disappointment.
Aside from football, Tyler also played lacrosse andbasketball. In his lacrosse years we got to see another side of Tyler.
In the game that his Grandpa referred to as the one“that the kids run around and beat the crap out ofeach other with
sticks”, Tyler was a bit of an “enforcer” for lack of better terms, and most seasons racked up more penalty minutes
than points. He wasn’t afraid to step up to guys a foot taller or 50 pounds heavier. What a competitor!!!
Trend setter:
Tyler was also a leader and trend setter when I it came to fashion. He liked to be in style. He didn'tcare what other
people thought; if he liked it he wore it. Terry says one of his recent favorites was the blue velvet sports jacket. It was
one of a kind.
How many of you remember his high school graduation? Black was all the rage in tuxedo's that year. Tyler being the
styling young man was bucking the trends as usual. He was already a exceptionally handsome young man, but when
Tyler showed up in that all white tuxedo white pants and white shoes with a pink tie to match his girlfriends dress WoW
did they standout. What a photo opp. He was the only guy who had the balls to wear all white and pinkin the school.
You will see a few photos on the slide presentationto follow. (By the way, Tenny thinks Tyler got the good looks from
him. But clearly his fashion sense came from his Mom, Terry. Tyler looked exceptional & very trendy athis viewing
yesterday. Thank- you Terry

Before I begin I would like to thank the Berg family for allowing me to speak freely to you all and share my thoughts
with you today.
“God's finger touched him and he slept”.
Lord Alfred Tennyson (1809-1892) British poet.
I met Tyler 10 years ago when I began my career with Tyler's dad Tenny he was fun loving and had a great sense of
humor I remember him always joking around. I remember this one time when he was in the office and my wife and I
came to drop of some business we knew Tyler fairly well by this point and on this day he was particularly cocky he
turned my wife and said and I quote "nice top you have on for a cougar" we'll we busted a gut and Tyler insisted that
on every CST team event they would be the cougars and Ty always made sure he was on Cheryl's team
Tyler was kind and would do anything asked of him he always wanted more from life and was willing to do what it took
to get it. He was a social person and had a beautiful girlfriend that he was crazy about
As time passed Tyler started having some struggles with outside issues with the help and direction from his dad he
agreed to seek some help.
After two months he came out a new man with a new lease on life and I became his sponsor we worked together on
what it takes to stay on course we went to meetingsstarted the step work to deal with things from ourpast he had a 6
ft flame coming out his butt. I was speaking to grade 9s and 10s in the Langley area about how are choices effects
our lives. Tyler's message was nothing short of brilliant he related to the kids like no one else everhad it was like he
was one of them they came up after the class and talked to him at a level only he could provide to them
As with all life’s struggles they are cunning, baffling and powerful and unless we remain dedicated and continue to live
by the principals of what we have learned we will fall back to old behaviors and lose hope. After a while Tyler started to
struggle again with his dads help and his courage Tyler, sought help for a second time and started again at the
beginning. After two months he came out and had a zest for life like I had not seen. He got involved with work helping
others and wanted to become a counselor.
“And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.”
Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) Politician. President of the United States.
We are all here today because a young man could notfind the solution some of us have, a solution thatsets us free
from ourselves and gives us a life far beyond what could have ever been possible had we not changed
everything............Einstein said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a
different result and ending at the same point.
For those that struggle with any disease it does not discriminate based on age, sex, creed, race, social status,

Tyler’s kind heart and loyal friendship to others touched many people during his life. We will hear directly from a few
more today, but let’s read a couple of thoughtful messages we have received on the website guest book:

Tenny, Terry and Brody, we are devastated about hearing of Tyler's passing. My thoughts go back to the1st
time we met at flag football when the boys were 5 and then all those years between then and now, special
birthdays and Graduation to name a few.
Zachary and Ty always had that silly bond between them right from when they were little and Reiko has always
said that out of all of Zack's friends, Tyler always cared for her as a little sister. It meant a lot to her.
Please know that our thoughts & prayers are with you at this time and if there is anything we can do, please
call. Much love always from Geoff, Kim, Zack and Reiko
