Antone R. “Tony” “Pinka” Miranda, age 76, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024 in Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Linda (Pomprowicz) Miranda, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in Fall River, the son of the late Antone R. and Mary “Connie” (Moniz) Miranda he was a lifelong resident of Swansea.
A skilled baker, he worked at Steve’s Bakery in Somerset and Art’s International in Taunton. Antone also worked at LaCava and Sowersby Auto for 25 years. A custodian for the Swansea School Department, he was a volunteer firefighter, Captain of Station 1, and Deputy Fire Chief in Swansea for 43 years. After retiring as Deputy Fire Chief, he was presently volunteering for the Swansea Emergency Agency where he was currently diligently working on getting the new EMA truck for the department.
Mr. Miranda delighted in mowing the lawn on his John Deere, feeding the birds in his yard, tending to his garden in hopes that his flowers were the first in the neighborhood to bloom and decorating his property for Christmas. Although reluctant to take in stray cats, he built a shed for them with everything they would need. A generous man, he set a good example for his family by being willing to help anyone in need. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Michelle Silva; one son, David Miranda, both of Swansea; he was “Pinka” to two granddaughters, Ava Lynn Silva and Bella Rose Silva; and many friends including lifelong friends, the Phillips and Hutchinson families.
His Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 at 9:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Francis of Assisi, 530 Gardners Neck Road. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4:00-7:00 PM. Contributions may be made in his honor to the Swansea Fire Department Station One Scholarship Fund, 50 New Gardner Neck Road, Swansea, MA 02777 or a charity of your choice. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Swansea.
