David Silvia Jr.

David “Big Dave” Silvia, Jr., age 48, of Swansea, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019, at home surrounded by his loving family after a two year battle with cancer. He was the husband of Lisa (Michaud) Silvia, with whom he shared 19 years of marriage.

Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late David Sr. and Elaine (Machado) Silvia.

A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1988, he earned his Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Bristol Community College and served in the Rehoboth MA National Guard for six years. He was a correctional officer at M.C.I Cedar Junction/Walpole Prison for 28 years before retiring due to illness.

Big Dave was a coach for many years, coaching numerous teams in the area including: East Bay Warrior Football for 13 years, where he coached both of his sons teams, Swansea Little League, S. I. B.L. Baseball, Swansea Recreational Basketball League and Warren U.S.A. Wrestling Team. Every year Dave looked forward to the annual “hunting” trip he and his four best friends went on.

In addition to his wife survivors include: two sons, David Silvia, III and Christopher Mark Silvia; two sisters, Dorry Silvia and her partner Christine Holden and Pamela Ferro; mother-in-law, DoraLee Boyd; two sisters-in-law, Dawn Palmer and her husband David and Tina Michaud; four best friends, Mark Cordery and his wife Susan, William Falandys and his wife Jacqueline, Heath Kulper and his wife Stavroula “Lou” and Edmund Correia and his wife Candice; several uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was the brother-in-law of the late Jose “Joe” Ferro.

His visiting hours will be held Friday, July 5, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. Funeral and burial will be private.
